D'Angelo Russell Prediction Thread

Post#1 » by Westbreezy » Thu Sep 3, 2015 2:33 am

With how polarizing Russell is to most fans, I thought it'd be fun to make a prediction thread about how good DLo will be in the NBA and maybe in a couple years someone can bump this thread and we can either celebrate how vastly we underestimated how good he'd be or maybe we'll collectively cry as we look back at our allstar predictions for our #2 draft pick who ended up being a a scrub not even on the Lakers anymore.

Orrrr maybe well all project him accurately, but that never happens :P

Ill set the poll to run for only the next 50 days so we can look back at what we thought before his rookie year. Let me know if I should edit a poll option

As for me, ill vote him into the "borderline all-star whose always underrated" option. I think he'll be good and I hope he'll be great but I'm not sure I see superstardom for a player with his athleticism. I hope he proves me wrong though.

I think he'll start slow, have a rough year or two before he grows into his physique and understand the savvyness needed to create separation in the NBA, by year 4 he'll make an all star team and by his 6th year, he'll be an elite player.

I picked Superstar / On the Harden/Curry/Durant/Lebron/etc tier because I think that he'll be a larger version of MVP Steve Nash once he hits his prime. I'm not really concerned about his first-step or jumping ability, because guys like Nash and Curry have succeeded with meh athleticism.

Also, I'm just being irrationally positive

Excuse him, the only basketball he's watched is while wanking into a wet cloth when Lin is playing.

His overall potential will show during his rookie season...

Guys like Lillard/CP3 became a superstar after there rookie season.

Lillard isn't a superstar by any means and he was 22 years old as a rookie.

I project his ceiling to be repeating All-star. Superstar, in my mind is reserved for players that fit into the top 5 best players in the game.

My projection is based on my intuition, experience as a fan of the NBA and the physical and mental tools he's exhibited as a Rookie in summer league and his playing tendencies in college. Obviously all this is subject to change, for better or for worse.

when Arizona tossed Ohio State out of the tournament, Russell was shut down by TJ McConnell, who shot 8-13 on him, and stole the ball 5 times. in general, he struggled against good competition. but he should benefit significantly playing with quality team mates in a good offensive scheme. his sharpshooting, passing and court awareness are huge assets. no doubt he would be an all-star playing for Pops. but he may lack the superior athleticism to ever dominate at will in isolation. both the start and end of the upcoming regular season should be revealing.

those are spot on.
Deron Williams, non-quick PG with range. Pick and roll savy. Not athletic
if everything doesn't work out, his can be a shooter who can space the floor like Sasha Vujacic.

Huh??? Deron Williams not athletic?? WTF??

Your comparison is downright dumb. Go back to the Hornets' board with your nonsense. Your boy is dressing up as a adidas gym trainer messing with people, go talk about that instead of cluttering up this board with stupid Russell comparisons...

you consider Deron Williams athletic? that's crazy.

anyways, if you don't think Russell is nothing like Deron Williams because Deron Williams is athletic, are you saying Russell is not as athletic as Deron Williams? that's not accurate, I think you need to watch Deron Williams more than just some clips on youtube. Learn some more.

Deron Williams's main strength was his upper body strength even from back when he played for Illinois, which he used effectively to bully and post up smaller guards. He's a lot like CHauncey Billups and nothing like Russell. You should just stop posting here, this board is a bit more educated than JeremyLinfans.net

I agree with you Slava. those comparisons are a tad off.

Prediction threads are a recipe for disaster because anyone saying anything too far to the left or right will be laughed at.going into their rookie season If someone would have told me Kobe would end up being the second best shooting guard of all time I wouldn't have believed them. If someone had told me Steve Nash would be one of the best offensive guard of all time I would have laughed.what I will say is I think DLo stats this year could be as impressive or unimpressive as any other elite guard that came in the league at 19 if Kobe wasn't on the team.

Deron was never the best PG in the NBA, that torch passed from Kidd & Payton to Nash to Chris Paul.

Like I said RealGM is a bit too educated for your ilk, stick to the rest of the lunatics.
