EYE CANDY
Spoiler:
Fox Sports: EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Byron Scott was fired Monday as coach of the New Jersey Nets, the team he led to the NBA Finals the past two seasons.

"It happens to almost every coach eventually: Your message isn't well received and taken onto the court," team president Rod Thorn said at a news conference announcing the change.

Assistant coach Lawrence Frank will take over on an interim basis and will stay at least through the end of the season, Thorn said. The Nets also hired Brian Hill as an assistant coach.

Spoiler:
ESPN: After nearly losing his job following last season's first-round exit in the playoffs, Byron Scott's coaching tenure with the New Orleans Hornets lasted only nine more games.

The Hornets on Thursday responded to their 3-6 start -- and a limp effort on national television in Wednesday's 20-point loss to Phoenix -- by firing Scott and replacing him with general manager Jeff Bower.

The firing is the second major move that the Hornets have made since the end of last season in an attempt to reverse their recent slide and ease the growing frustrations of star guard Chris Paul, although sources close to the situation stressed that Paul has remained a strong Scott supporter.

Spoiler:
USA Today: The Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday fired coach Byron Scott.

Scott was 66-166 (.278) in three seasons but the Cavaliers regressed from year two to year three under Scott, and Cavs general manager Chris Grant determined it was time for a change.

"I have tremendous respect for Byron professionally and a great deal of admiration for him personally. At the same time, it is critical for where we are as a team to ensure that we capitalize on every opportunity for development and success and we have fallen short of that on the court," Cavs general manger Chris Grant said in a statement. "I believe we needed to make this change in order to get to a better position to achieve our goals. I know I speak on behalf of the entire Cavs organization and the Cleveland community, in thanking Byron for his three years here and his hard work and many contributions on and off the court. We wish Bryon and his wife, Anita, the best."

Added in some numbers

The dfg focuses on individual settings and match ups (man defense) while fg focuses on the impact on team defense and coming to help contest.

Nance, Metta, and Kobe are our beat one on one guys

As the game progressed against the Magic, Scott started switching more and more against Frye, Harris and eventually even Vuc. You can do that when you have two 6'5 guys in at guard (although it did lead to some poor defensive rebounding). It'll be interesting to see if they do this against the Felton/Deron/Wes Matthews semi-undersized trio and it'll be especially interesting to see if Scott has the balls to switch against Dirk.

Loving the fire Byron aura in our forum

We gotta clean up our horrible defense and those ugly rotations Byron tends to make. I'm sick of seeing Bass play center man, he's a solid little defender but he's not even a good small ball center. He has no rim protection, never had athleticism or good size. If only Tarik Black was 6'11 lol I like how Randle and Black looked together out there holding down the interior defense.

Go Lakers!!!

Upshaw won't be ready for that kind of back up center role for likely another 2 seasons at least. From his latest interview it was pretty easy to see he hadn't yet figured out crucial things like how to accept responsibility for his own actions and that will definitely hinder a player, regardless of potential/upside. In regards to his last college before being kicked out, he said something like, "The people around me then let me do those things." That along with the assessment given of him by Scott and Worthy told me that he likely wasn't yet mentally ready to be the player he could be. He's perfect for the D-League, let him mature some and revisit but until then it's best to pass. You'll be disappointed for sure, he already knew coming into the Lakers that he'd be cut, that didn't help in assuring his mental game and maturity has grown.

Anyone read Mettas quote? He basically said that the players on the roster don't care.

Acknowleding on the team making the same mistakes and calling them fish brains means he knows the same mistakes will continue thus the unwilling to learn and not care...
