After last night's gut-wrenching blow out loss, we all can't help but wonder other events we'll see before this awful season is over.

1) Firing of Byron
2) Re-defined pecking order on offense
3) Trading one of Lou or Young
4) Trading a young core player
5) Young core player suffers season ending injury
6) Kobe retires
7) Jim Buss steps down

Unless this franchise is really under the radar type of tanking, regardless of fan opinion then while I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the above, I want 1-3 done but as for 4-5 it just seems like something that may be forced into if these losses pile up and we're doing worse than we were last year.

feel free to add your own Laker doomsday events

Lakers (2-12) @ Trail Blazers (6-10)

as for eye candy, I wanted to do a little light research on what CP3 and Kyrie had to say after Byron was fired with their team despite rumored rifts with the starting PG of all his teams: Jason Kidd (Nets), Chris Paul (Hornets), Kyrie Irving (Cavs)

Kyrie

Kyrie says he's surprised & hurt by firing. "I feel like a piece of me is missing."
Kyrie "emotions are running high. I'm trying to get over loss of my basketball father."

CP3

"Obviously change needed to occur. I'm not sure that's what should have happened," Paul said. "I'm not sure it was all coach's fault. You can [only] play with the cards you're dealt. It's a tough situation. The team went a different direction. Now we've got to play."

Paul spoke with Scott after the coaching change took place on Thursday. The two had grown close in the past four-plus seasons, sometimes playing golf together, and Paul has said he was closer to Scott than some of his own relatives.

"Coach was more than a coach to me. He was a mentor, someone who has made me the player I am today," Paul said.

"I'm not blind to the fact that things happen," Paul continued. "I'm not that emotional, where I'm like, 'Man, this can't happen to coach.' It's just a tough situation. ... I'm hoping we can just turn this thing around. It's all about winning with me.

Russell IS doing better offensively, but I still feel his actual playmaking is pretty poor. I can recall many plays where he's called a play only to have it fail miserably and end up in kobe's hands for a last second hail mary. I expected the opposite from Russell, more playmaking but struggling to find his offense. Instead we're looking at having two SGs that can play some PG in Clarkson and Russell.

Like many who've called for Byron's head here, I don't care to examine his approach any longer as I feel I already know everything I need to know. The man's truly got no offensive schemes here, no balls to tell kobe what's what, and no improvements in team chemistry. I just worry about 3 things:

1- Would the front office actually considering firing Byron mid season?

2- If so, who would take over? I'm guessing we let an interim coach finish the season like Madsen? What respectable coach would take a mid season job worth hiring?

3- Would a coach (obviously not Byron) actually monitor Kobe's shot selection and minutes with no seniority privileges if it made this roster perform better?

1-Probably not. There's lot of reasons they'd keep him, nothing basketball related except driving the tank for Ben Simmons.

2-Interim would be Madsen I would guess.

3-Whatever interim coach that would be installed would have strict orders from the FO to play the young guys heavy minutes in all likelihood. Now whether or not that has any effect on Kobe's play or minutes is up for debate

Once Kobe realizes his own limitations it would be better to play him around 15-20 mins a game as a token gesture and distribute the rest among the youngsters. I'm not even bothered as much about Kobe's time as I'm with the kind of time Lou, Young and Bass are getting at the expense of Russell, Clarkson and Nance.

Randle is the only one getting his deserved quota in the minutes distribution.

Seriously. After 20 years, we should all know him better than that.

They're not firing Byron unless he starts to lose the locker room....and he may not be that far off from that especially with all the crazy comments he's made.

I think that locker room thing may be happening fellas, check out the quote from Swaggy on Mark Medina here:

also I've noted that iirc kobe has missed the last 2 practices, the pre-gsw practice, the team flight to gsw and now the practice. meaning kobe has been away from his teammates quite a bit this last time

Can we take number 5 off your list up there?... I know "anything can happen" but I don't see why that needs to be part of the speculation.

The insane injuries suffered last year? Kobe's continued this year? Did you not see Byron's practice clip today? He had them running. (Kobe didn't practice again)

With that said, I can see one of our young guys getting hurt by trying to force things, which happens often when watching Randle makes a play. I cringe sometimes when he just tries to muscle his way in there only to get a charge called on him.

Am I overreacting? Possibly, but have you been watching all the games including preseason? If so, more power to you for contributing some logic and calm to this thread cuz no doubt I'm pretty upset with this kind of play. I'm not even blaming our players as much as our coaching methods and not giving kobe the role he needs to be in for team chemistry's sake. Our young guys will be underdeveloped at this rate in my crappy opinion, but we'll see what happens. I said I'd wait till December to see what this team's got barring major injuries and well December's a-knockin on my door

Someone needs to man the F up and stand up to Kobe whether it's Management, Players, Coach what ever, someone needs to Man the F up and tell it how it is - Set Kobe Straight I love the man, but then there are times (this season?) where I don't. Man I wish I played with him.

Unfortunately he's surrounded by a lot of young guys who are trying their best to make it in this league and stay there for the long term so the last thing they'll do is stand up to a legend. Hence why you're basically left with Nick Young being the one to call him out. Unfortunately it's also Nick Young.

It continues to baffle me how he keeps making these sort of comments. It's hard for me to imagine any other team's front office being happy with their heas coach making comments of this nature without any repercussions.

And sadly I see him ending up with another season ending injury because of this and I think at that point the young guys will get time to they deserve. I feel as if we won't see this team look the way it was supposed to until Kobe goes down and it's really unfortunate.

I still don't know why the LOFs still hang around the Lakers Board.
