Does Hibbert have a future with this team?

Not sure he's really making a difference out there and he seems to be regressing very fast with each game... He played lazy defense today against the Pistons and Seems to be getting worse offensively

Not sure if not .. having a better equipment team is decreasing his Impact and value but i don't think hes a good fit with this team at least when we had Howard he had games where he made huge Impact I have yet to see that with Hibbert... I'm interested to see what the Lakers can get with his huge expiring deal and I'm sure Playoff teams like the Celtics and Mavs can use a consistent .. rim portector. I don't even think he was apart of our plans moving forward just a guy to stabilize the front-court this year before the team has money to spend on better players... This summer.

I like Hibbert, just not as a starter - better suited as a back up

Thats amazing.. considering he's been a Allstar player not like hes some sort of Random role player who is better suited to be a back up this guy was apart of the All star team and a starter for a team that almost beat Miami in the playoffs... I think not having a system and chemistry/identity is throwing his game off... At least he's gonna have value at the TD with his huge expiring contract.

If Lakers are going to go young and stick with their young team, they need a centre who can run and gun with them - not slow them down. That's just me and my 2cents. I want to wait and see what happens after Kobe goes and see what direction they go.

He's probably the Lakers' best trade asset at the moment, so I'd say no.

To slow and soft...hibbert was just a way for mgmt to sell us false hope, they didnt want us thinking they werent doing anything. If Hibbert wasnt expiring there was no chance mgmt wouldve pursued trade for him, this was a 1yr rental through and through

It makes sense. Love is a guy that is a post scoring threat. Russell could throw the ball to him and get assists. Love is also a good three point shooter. Lakers then fill the other roster spot by simply signing Upshaw.

No, I don't think he does. I agree he wouldn't do too bad as a back up. He's just too soft. Not sure where he lost but it seems like its mental for him and I don't know if you can come back from that.

Plus, 6 rbs a game for a 7 footer as a starter is just pathetic. This was his shot to show that he's still got it and I don't think he's proven anything yet.

Hibbert's ideal role is as a starter who plays roughly half the game.

Ideally, you'd like his backup to be dynamic and younger, possessing a defensive base to build on, but having more offensive spark.

With more leadership (from coaches and players), a guy like Mareese Speights, with his head screwed on right, would be an excellent and ideal backup to Hibbert.

yeah.. we'll see, ultimately price is the determining factor but he adds experience and stability that's hard for a young team to find... From all reports he works we'll with Randle and crew on and off the floor and has been a solid locker room presence.

Tell me one big man, young or old, who'd like to run the floor like a mad man and never get to touch the ball, instead having to watch Lou, KB, Nick, Russell, Randle jack up shots early in the shot clock, then rush back to defend the fast break.

The better question is: does BS have a future with this team? Who here thinks BS should last past New Year's Eve?

Hibbert is actually a rather crafty passer in a half court set. Inside out.

Maybe

Lakers have no direction... So hard to gauge.

A 7 foot defensive center is a good thing to have. He isn't a plus rebounder, but his offensive game isn't terrible. (remember he used to have a solid mid range game and is an excellent big man ft shooter)

Could he be a dinosaur in today's nba? Maybe.

All said, he is essentially the MBA caliber starter the lakers have right now. Russell and clarkson are both deficient on defense, and you will never be good with them together. Send clarkson to the bench (great 6th man), and get a 3&d Wing to put next to Russell.

Kobe is gonna do his thing at sf, but outside of Kobe, we have no sf either. (long term, not you MWP)

Not having any sfs is trouble to begin with, than having defensive weakness at the guards, and the PF spot combines this weakness into a catastrophe.

So much needs to happen to even be able to see what this team has.

Russell/clarkson
Sg
Sf/Brown?/nance
Randle
Upshaw?

All I know is that clarkson is gonna be an elite 6th man (or below average starter )
Nance has got the hustle to stick, but not sure where he fits (sf? Small ball 5 (with randle))
Randle is a talent, but needs to improve all aspects of his game. He essentially has one move still. Pure iso old school PF.
Russell might be a Andre miller with range. He needs to be the pg, not a guy taking turn running iso (which is what the lakers offense is.)
Upshaw and brown both need to get some run. Find out what they got. Upshaw is a defensive anchor proscept. Brown a sing 3&d

Also, trade all non-essential players, right now.
Lou, young, bass.

Hibbert's biggest issue is that he is an old school player in a new school league.

The league has gone away from the big, lumbering centers of the 90s and early 2000s. Nowadays, athletic bigs who aren't necessarily very tall or strong but can run the floor, block shots and finish lobs at the rim are what every team needs. The game has evolved to relay more on shooting, speed and match up instead of size and power. And that is what took away Hibbert's value to a team. Hibbert quite simply cannot be an effective player when he doesn't have the legs to run with opposing players. He either gas himself out trying to run his ass off, or is beaten in a foot race badly every possession. Add in his inability to finish around the rim at all, and you get a player who is almost the exact opposite to what teams look for in their center these days.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to keep Hibbert around even at a discount. The guy is simply too unathletic to be effective in today's NBA. Our key to success revolves around playing the young players more and speed up the temple of the game for these young players, and Hibbert is just a bad style fit.

probably not, not the way he is playing, 15 mill expiring will either be used in a trade or we let him expire

He's been far too soft, far too removed from anything involving us. He hasn't done anything of note, i mean he hasn't been horrible but he hasn't done anything either, he's just kinda, well, there.

Nope. He's regressing because he's frustrated that no one else can play defense.
