Update: Lakers shopping Nick Young?

All of a sudden, he's in the dog house despite playing his best as a Laker this year. I'm sure that comment must have took the management the wrong way but he's really showing value this year and unless there is some sort of trade discussions going on involving Nick so he doesn't get injured I call the benching unnecessary and unwarranted...

This just proves how short sighted things are.

You call Mamba a clown, you sit in Byron's dog house for a week.

Like mentioned, he's showing a lot of value this year and almost helped us win against the Pacers... The benching is unnecessary out of a guy who was frustrated with his teams play especially against a historical bad team like the Sixers... I'm not a big Young fan but benching him isn't gonna make things better unless you find a way to trade him ASAP to prevent him from opening his mouth more and causing drama.

Never been a Nick Young fan and he'll probably be gone next year (hopefully before) So I'm certainly not sorry to see him "riding the pine" as they say

He's actually been having a pretty nice comeback season. Was hoping he'd be able to get flipped for something, anything, but not if he's riding the pine. To Young's credit, he's taking it well at least publicly, saying its not a big deal, that coach is just trying new things.

I never liked Youngs play especially in previous seasons but.. anyone with a brain knows he's playing more under control this year...

And this is exactly nobody bothers to stand up to Byron or Kobe when he has these horrible games.

I honestly would pay to see what the locker room is like for the Lakers this season. I mean, the level of disfunction must be off the chart there. You have the coach who tries to act like he is an old school, by the book, tough nose, and no nonsense kind of man, but is a classic two face. As soon as Kobe walks in, he puts on his puppy face and talks like a 16 year old girl who has a crush. meanwhile, the only player on the team who has the balls to stand up for what's right, i.e let the basketball team be a basketball team, gets benched. Gotta love the drama there, man.

he's obviously one of those guys Bryon was talking about last year...the ones he wouldn't want in the trenches with him cause he'd get shot in the back by these guys.

The only player on the team that shoots the ball more irresponsibly than Kobe is Nick Young. Wouldn't most rational coaches eventually make this decision? I mean I get that he actually makes some of his shots, but it has to be morale-deflating for his teammates on the court to watch Nick Young hoist up a contested three after one pass.

Uhh Nick Young has been rather efficient this year and the year under MDA. If anything Lou Williams should be riding the pine.

40.7% from the 3.
2.1 3P's/game
56.7 TS%
All career highs.

In only 19.8mpg (aside from his first 2 seasons it's a career low).

He's improved his efficiency. He's increased his defensive effort (his per-36 steals matches a career high too). I like what he's said in post-game interviews, he seems a little more mature. There's leadership qualities, even.

I get it, guys think he's a chucker, and he plays a little more "loose" than most are comfortable with. Some guys need to play freely in order to play well at all. Nick is like Sundance, he's better when he moves.

And considering the fact that our offense was train-wreck to start the season, you'd have to say this is a miracle he was this efficient. Could have been a lot worse.

Worst case scenario, at least he's improved his trade value for any team looking for shooting on the wing.

I don't think the problem with Young are his numbers... It's his approach to the game, he's not a team player

But if you want to use numbers look at the team numbers, when you're a guard and you're last in assists among the players that get playing time that's saying something... among players playing real minutes he's also last in rebounds, giving fouls and last in defensive plus minus... basically we have a shooter who's coming off the bench and not contributing in any other way except putting up average shooting numbers

Nick Young is a pretty superb spot up shooter. It seems like MDA is the only coach that tried to maximize this. Im not even going to begin to act like I know offenses well enough to say exactly what to do with him but he needs to be involved in the offense more by getting him open 3s not giving him the ability to play in pick and roll.

Young is the type of player that would have benefited greatly from good coaching young. He has a lot of bad habits that at the age of 29/30 aren't going away. Even still he's more efficient on the floor than a Ron and Lou williams.

but some players are only needed for that and thats what Young was signed for

I agree, but at this time the Lakers need more than that from that position so what he brings to the table doesn't work, he doesn't compliment the roster..

Young is an icing on the cake type of player to have that can come in hit a few buckets then head back to the bench, an 8th or 9th guy off the bench but he's not a foundational piece...

That's the problem with Nick Young... He's always tripping over his dick... His personality gets in the way of his performance. Every time he starts having an impact on the floor, he starts running his mouth and ruins it.
He came out more focused this year and has been quietly effective, but he thinks the Lakers are his team and he's earned the right to call out Kobe... It's comical as long as you don't get the feeling it's real, that he may actually be serious. Once that happens, no amount of on court performance can over-shadow the caustic distraction he becomes.

He just needs to go... There are times when I wish he could figure it out and stick... But that's just not him. He needs to be 6th man on an established team that he can't distract.

Who is saying he's a foundational piece?

Nick's an 8 year player who makes just over what D'Angelo is making on his rookie deal. It's a drop in the bucket. Especially next year when the cap goes up.

Should make him a more valuable chip next TD.
