What IF Russell was in Phi?

Hypothetical situation, how good could Russell have been doing if he was on the sixers? Looking at Ish Smith, a career journeyman posting up all-star lvl #s since his return to phi makes me wonder how beastly Russell would have looked with that team. Now this isnt a thread to suggest Im trying to trade him but to give perspective. As bad as our coach and offensive system is, Russell has still shown great potential. If we were running offense like Phi, there wouldn't have been any doubts on Dlo pick from the start.

Noel and Covington's numbers would look a lot better and Philly might have won 5 more games.

Russell
Canaan
Covington
Grant
Noel

is not half bad for a tanking team. That's 2 shooters and a solid blue collar PF around a Noel/Russell pick and roll system.

Philadelphia would be a better team but that's more due to fit in personnel than any Russell vs Okafor comparison. Noel could play his regular position at C and be a much better defender overall for the team while Canaan and Covington would be able to thrive a whole lot better next to Russell. I'm somewhat curious to in seeing how many points Russell would average on that team seeing as he'd be at the top of the pecking order himself.

Russell would probably eventually be traded if you look what Philly did to previous picks MCW and Turner.

Not really comparable. Turner played four years with Phil before trading him and MCW was a 22 year old rookie with a low ceiling. The MCW trade was actually a very good trade for Phi.

Whatever. Just going by history of their franchise and how poorly run they are especially at developing talent. Also throw in the Embiid saga in the mix.

Oh i agree with you there. They could also do a better job during the draft as well.

His numbers would be insane. Being able to play and not being held back by Scott I could see Russell averaging 18 points 8 assist and 6 rebounds a game. Philly would of took him if they had the 2nd pick Lakers made the right pick.

I think if he was in Philadelphia, he'd be on Sudoku watch.

There's something to bringing along a rookie the proper way instead of just throwing him into the fire.

Long term, I think this is going to make him a much better player.

interesting contrast with OK4, "thrown in the fire" in Philly, who started out hot. then, that after hour video from Boston came out, and word of the other incidents, he struggled on court as well. disaster? idk, now his offensive game is surging again, and he's making rudimentary, but definite progress on D. personally, i think Russell would have handled that situation fine, just like he will in LA when He's finally thrown in the fire.

I was totally on the Okafor/Porzingas over DLo bandwagon before the draft. Okafor however is turning into an unmitigated disaster of a head case and his issues on the defensive end is proving as bad as advertised. Looking at the on off stats for Okafor is a startling revelation that the Sixers play better WITHOUT him. DLo is starting to finally show glimpses now so hopefully he will pan out as the perimeter star we so desperately need. Still woulda liked Porzingas as a new age big, but at least DLo's strong play of late is soothing many worried Laker fans.

Either way, you mainly need a great coaching staff to guide his development.

Long term, I don't think Byron is going to make him a much better player.
(not that any of us believe that will be a problem.)

no doubt. but then Coach K vouches for him, and the sixers bring in a full complement of Dukies to clean-up and patrol. maybe it's a coincidence, but maybe these folks think OK4 is worth that kind of fuss. (not that the whole franchise isn't holding its breath over Embiid.)

He'd prolly go all Johnny Football on them.
Honestly though, say what you want, Scott provides a lot of structure in the locker room that seems to be lacking in Phi... I don't think that would have been good for Russell, judging from his start here.

You guys are hilarious.

Russell has one good game and y'all act like he's arrived. Yeah, lets pretend the rest of the season didn't happen. If the Sixers regret one thing on draft day it's probably not taking KP. Thats no blight on Okafor whose played well but Kp game is just so much more advanced then where we thought it was draft day.

1 good gm? He was the youngest player to post 26/6/5 with 5 3s just a month ago  ....this isnt a thread to discuss if phi regrets who they pick since phi didnt have the chance to pick russell, just seeing how a 3rd rate backup is seemingly posting top 5 pg stats one could easily imagine how much success statically Russell could have had if he was playing for your dleague squad you call the suxers

I don't love Okafor, but c'mon. He's improved a ton since the beginning of the year.
