2016 Lakers Have the Most Cap Space

Post#1 » by LakersLegacy » Mon Feb 29, 2016 7:55 am

The Lakers will have the most cap space of ANY NBA team this off-season. Between 56 mil and 60 mil depending if we keep our pick and put a cap hold on Clarkson.

Lakers Under Contract
Back Court
Russell 5.1 mil (3 years)
Williams 7 mil (2 years)
Young 5.2 mil (2 years)
Front Court
Randle 3.1 mil (2 years)
Nance Jr. 1.2 mil (3 years)
Brown 0.8mil (1 year)

Everyone else is pretty much a free agent.
Bass will opt out of his player option to become an Unrestricted Free Agent.

Unrestricted Free Agents
Clarkson FREE AGENT CAP HOLD approx 3 mil (UFA Lakers have the right to match his highest offer most likely between 7-10mil)
Hibbert
Bass
Kelly
Sacre
Black
Huertas
Retired
Kobe
Peace

The glaring hole in the roster is at the center position - we don't have one
Center targets: 1) Drummond 2) resign Hibbert to a reasonable contract 3) Mozgov 4) small ball

Durant is the pipe dream.

Take out: Lebron, Dwight, Drummond, Pau, Wade as they aren't coming

Wouldn't mind having Rondo (for experience) but too pricey then again he would teach Russell some awesome **** - you'll all laugh
Noah is a maybe for me, but only cause I like him but about 90% of you probably say no take him out.

That leaves ...

Barnes, Batum, Whiteside, Conley, Parsons, Big Al, Deron, Anderson, Pachulia.

How many of them are max free agents? Whiteside Conley, Derozen???

Honestly 2017 list is actually looking a lot better then next year. Let's hope for either

Whiteside, Derozen, Noah (right price) and/or Batum will want to come ???

After looking at that list my doubts are now shaken a bit, but as I've said b4 Money talks
My Go Team
Magic, Jordan, Pippen, Duncan, Shaq

My Counter
Stockton, Kobe, Bird, Rodman, Dirk

Today's Team
Luka, SGA, Tatum, Giannis, Wemby

Well, this is what Mitch and Jim have been waiting for, the ability to be the destination when two max players want to team together to win.

But there aren't two max players this summer that we really want. My guess is that they sign Whiteside and hold tight until the following summer

They made pitches to everyone from Melo and Aldridge to Monroe and DeAndre Jordan, they are desperate.

They aren't getting KD so that's out. I honestly think they should just max out Whiteside and sign small complentary pieces for the young guys. The draft is going to play into this as well. Whiteside offensively would do wonders for Clarkson and Russell's development in pick n rolls.

Best case scenario they draft Ben Simmons. 1 4 5 pick and rolls all game with Whiteside as the roll man and Russell and Brown on the wings....Jesus.

I think they will push hard for Whiteside and will do what they can for Drummond as well and hope for the best with one of them.

If they keep their pick and land one of Ingram/Simmons.. I see them pushing hard for a wing. Beal/DeRozan.

I don't think KD is leaving OKC.

Drummond is restricted. Detroit is 100% matching any offer.

That Nick Young contract... Sheesh. Just now realizing we could be stuck with Nick for the full term.

Would be great to have a taller 2 guard to pair with DLo, and Clarkson.

Also would like to keep Bass if we could. Seems like we've lost out on a few good role players the last couple years because we've been so focused on swinging for the fences.
Talking about how bad Julius Randle is:

They will get KD and Lebron after Golden State repeats this year. Clarkson and Randle will be traded for the third star.

Why are so many people throwing around Noah's name?

We don't need a broken down center on a long term contract eating up 10 million a year. I follow the Bulls, and he's looked absolutely done for the last two years. Thibs ran him into the ground.

doesn't really matter where lebron goes at this point, if they don't beat GS this year he's probably never gonna win again. i don't even think teaming up with KD on this **** roster would be enough, plus Russell would be so under utilized in that scenario which would make me sad.

Really? You don't want both Lebron and Durant on the Lakers, because "Russell would be so under utilized"? Are you a Laker fan or a D'Angelo fan?

I'm not going to get caught up in Free Agency this year, regarding Durant. The past few years have been enough for me to learn my lesson. The hype will increase, and many reports will link Durant to us, but my attitude regarding his chances of coming to here is "there is no way" until he actually signs (which will never happen). I think our realistic allstar target is Derozan (and I'm sure the board would be split about a Derozan signing....I personally don't mind it either way. Get him and we have an allstar in his prime to ease the transition. Don't get him and we have more opportunity for the guys to prove themselves with hopes of adding someone next year. It's funny though....we have striked out on free agency the last couple of years, but I think we have done a great job not commiting to bad contracts. Not sure if there is one single person I could think of that we could have signed but didn't, who would have been a good signing. People wanted Chandler/Lopez/Monroe, and all of those would be considered a bad contract right now, like Lou is. I'm more than ok with another year of rentals. We need the young guys to prove themselves in order to attract quality talent, and I have no doubt that they will do so next year.

Lowry Russell and Clarkson wouldve been a nice guard rotation.

Absoloutely, and I thought about that when I was saying that. He is probably the one free agent that we might have had a shot that we missed out on. However, as much as I like Lowry, it's not like we would have competed with him, and I'm not sure he would make a big difference in our recruitment efforts. Of course not to mention Clarkson, and also his age in comparison to the rest of our "core". All that being said, I would be foolish to act like signing Lowry would have been a mistake, even if it was at max dollars. I'm just not sure not signing him is something to regret, and he is pretty much the only person that comes to mind. Melo/Aldridge were no brainers in terms of our pursuit (same with DAJ) and I'm sure we pursued them as best as we could. But literally after that, and Lowry, It's not easy to find a free agent who was actually available that we had a realistic shot in who we didn't pursue. My point being, management can hardly be blamed for lack of success in free agency. If anything, they should be applauded for the moves they didn't make.

Oh how we need Durant to come to the Lakers

if We get Durant and Whiteside honestly i think we would be nearly done (obvious next step would be to get Westbrook and go for broke i think, if we keep our pick maybe a simple Simmons + Clarkson for Westbrook deal, i mean ideally Russell + westbrook backcourt would be amazing and helps Westy moreso than Clarkson and Westy)

Drummond is getting maxed don't even bother.

Wouldn't mind horford by any means but he would want to play P.F (as he should, its his natural position) and honestly we aren't the best fit for him and we aren't going to win titles if its just him coming

Derozan would be a good backup option for us if Durant falls through (sadly this is likely)

Actually think we could get Barnes somehow, if Durant goes to GSW (RIP the rest of the NBA for a few seasons), i think the Warriors have to let him go. Now Obviously this would allow us to play Simmons at P.F in theory if we got him (still would like to see him at P.F) and would mean us trading Randle

either way we can't fail this season like we did last offseason, because the future of the franchise, at least for the next 3-5 years lies in this year. If we get our primary targets (Durant & Whiteside) a title could be in our sites

on a side note we really need to get rid of young somehow, get the scrub out of here pronto.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
