our commentators

Post#1 » by SashaTheMachine » Wed Apr 13, 2016 6:25 pm

Hey there,

I don't post here much so I don't know if there's been a discourse on this topic before but I wanted to talk about our commentators: Stu and Bill.

Do you guys like them, dislike them, or are just 'whatever' about them? Would you wish for a change? Did you like Joel Meyers? I know him and Stu weren't the best of buds at times lmao.

I'm not a big fan of Stu, but maybe I'm biased because when I met him he seemed like a douche and at times it sounds like he doesn't give a fu*k. Maybe it's just because we've sucked these past few years. However, he is a former player so he does offer a cool perspective and knows what he's talking about.

Don't let me get started on Bill. I don't like to hear: "WOAHHHHH" every time something remotely exciting happens. I don't like the way he says "Jack-in-the-box."

It would have been cool if we kept Spero. He was awesome on the play-by-play, but I'm sure he gets good money because that dude is dominating the sports commentating world.

I fear for the day that John Ireland is moved to television to be the color commentator.

Sorry for sounding like a big hater, I just wanted to get your guys' thoughts.

I like Stu, you could put a dummy next to him and I couldn't care less. Our commentators are not pure homers like a lot of other teams though, which is refreshing.

I'm probably a complete 180 from most Lakers fans, but I think Bill is a great play by play announcer and I think Stu is underwhelming and has poor presence. I can admit he's very knowledgeable about the game but as you said he sounds checked out and probably should have retired a long time ago.

Stu is a Laker legend at this point. He isn't going anywhere, and watching Laker games without him would suck, despite his actual skill as a commentator (which can be debated, imo he's awesome). Bill isn't the best...but I don't mind him as much as everyone else seems to do.

I think they're okay. Like Slava said they're not homers and they give credit when credit is due, don't pick on refs every other play and don't go over the top to find excuses when the team plays like ****. Also, what I like about Bill is that he is quite informed, he does his research and does know what happens around the league. What's annoying about him is that he's a bit of a cheerleader at times, especially for Kobe, but maybe that changes the next year. I do think that the organization is pretty happy with him since he host a lot of events for them.

Stu can be pretty ignorant at times, like that one time when he said that he's not watching the play-off's and instead prefers on playing golf. C'mon man. Also, last seasons sounded to me that a lot of times he was trying to contradict Bill about every meaningless thing, like he's the only one that knows what happens, or holds the ultimate answer. This season has been better in that regard, the chemistry seemed better.

Why did we lose Joel anyways, is he from New Orleans or something? I loved him, bill got nothing on Joel imo.

I like them... We were spoiled with Chick, hard act to follow but Bill has done admirably and Stu has always been great... Spero was awesome wish he was still here but he had bigger plans in life

I never warmed up to Joel... just a "me thing" I know but I never cared for him for some reason

Stu is a great teacher of the game. I'm sure the players learn from him re-watching games. I like Stu, he can stay until he doesn't want to anymore.

Bill has done well replacing Joel. I prefer him over Joel who was a Spurs homer and talked too much about players' college ball careers all the time.

Edit- compared to the Keltics announcers, we're light years ahead. That guy Tommy something is such a homer it's frankly annoying to watch any game. Practically every ref call is unfair to his team. It's a quite ridiculous display of lack of objectivity, humorous almost. I'm proud that our commentators don't do that.

I think Bill in a tight game and in big moments when the excitement is justified.

Stu's good, but like everybody else who's associated with the Lakers, just seems like he's had enough of the losing and it affects his performance. Jokes about ending the game early, hoping that games don't go to overtime -- that stuff probably shouldn't be said on live TV.

In all honesty we could use an upgrade.
Bill is too nice.. We need someone with a pair of balls that isn't afraid to call a game and call someone out(something Chick had no problem with) when someone does something stupid.
John Ireland at least brings more passion than Bill.
I met Stu once and told him I miss the Chick N Stu days and he seemed cool so I'm cool with him.

Then you need to make a late night foodie call.

Miss Joel, big fan. Billy Mac is alright, but kind of a dork. Stu is Stu. At least he's real and not prone to blind homerism.
