D'Lo finishes 9th in ROY voting | Makes all rookie 2nd team

Post#1 » by PKABOOICU » Tue May 17, 2016 11:57 am

Its the biggest drop out of the top 10 picks, with Myles Turner, Justise Winslow, Stanley Johnson, and Emmanuel Mudiay all jumping over him.
I hope it doesn't affect his mind coming into next year, although he does seem to be focused, and I definitely dont think he did THAT bad that he finished 9th. That Nick Young video leak must have had some type of effect on the voting.

I can't believe that he finished behind Emmanuel Mudiay. I don't care if you're using the eye test or the stats test or some combination of the two, Mudiay did not have a better season than Russell. I'm really not mad about him finishing behind Turner or Winslow or Johnson though.

im sorry, but having winslow or johnson ahead of russel in the rookie voting is ludicrous. im well aware of the discrepency in records of the three teams, but their rookie impact had little to nothing to do with that. so if were going by on court production (which is what this award should be based on), they werent even close to him. in the 2nd half of the season, russel perfromed like a top 3/4 rookie. only decisive ones i have in front are KAT, por, and booker. okafor barely even played the last few months of the sesaon. to me, this feels more like a backlash to how the league perceived russel after that dumb nick young controversy

How is mudiay above Russell?

Absurd...
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Proceeds to finish 7th and shames the entire nation!

Myles Turner and Dlo had a better season and shouldve been at least somethin like

1. Kat
2. Porzingis
3. Jokic
4. Turner
5. Dlo

I could understand that
2014: Randle / Clarkson
2015: Russell / Nance
2016: Ingram / Zubac
2017: Top 3 Pick? Fultz, Ball or Bust

Imagine if we had kept MDA as our coach - He'd be number 1 for sure

If we kept MDA, we wouldn't have been bad enough to get Russell.

no, we would have been just as bad. Would have scored more but conceded more also to balance things out

I agree that MDA's defense is non-existent. But Scott's defense seems just as bad. We would have had a lot better offense with marginally worse defense. Don't get me wrong, I don't like MDA, but he could have done a lot more with Lin and Ed Davis, than Byron did.

Byron's was bad but we would have been conceding 120 a game with D'Antoni at the helm. I mean we may have been marginally better, but its the difference between 17-65 and 19-63 tbh

I think he dropped some because of his perceived failure in living up to his status as the #2 pick in the draft. Russell was at the very least comparable in impact to both Mudiay and Booker. However, both of those players were selected later in the draft and didn't have as much hype to live up to coming into the season. If Russell was the 10th pick (for example) and had the same season, I guarantee he'd be at least ahead of Mudiay. Just silly. At least this should give him some motivation heading into next season.

Eh.. He didn't do much to impress really. I'm still high for his potential, but last year was definitely toward the disappointing side.

Yeah who cares.

He wasn't drafted for his ROY standing, and we all saw flashes of that special somethin from time to time, but he also played some horrendous ball for long stretches, and played selfishly too often.

I think he can be one of the best guards in the game in time, but he's far from a polished player right now, and this particular vote is a mix of talent and how well the players fit in their team.

Plus the Lakers were a mess all year, so there's that too.

Hopefully finishing 9th will motivate him rather than discourage him.

Mudiay with his 44 TS% and all around negative advanced numbers is higher than Russell?
