Laker Front Office Rant

Post#1 » by Lakers24gm » Sun Jul 3, 2016 4:09 am

OK here I go. Been a Laker fan as long as I can remember. My first year watching basketball I remember seeing an 18 take the world by storm wearing number 8 from the purple and gold. Ive watched the Lakers and loved the Lakers through the championships and through the tanking years. Now after the first couple days of free agency I'm trying to understand where the Lakers stand. So what do I mean by that?

Now with the current roster are we a team trying to compete for a championship? Obviously not. Are we a young team trying to grow? I don't know by the current signings we made so far. As the players we signed I don't really mind. I actually picked us signing Mozgov to a contract this summer but in reality I was thinking a 1 year deal or maybe a 2. As far as Deng goes he was always a player Laker fan base has wanted but that was year ago and now signing him to a deal at 31 for 4 years just makes no sense. Sure he is a great veteran to have. But will he be a great veteran to have 4 years from now for over 20 million?

This brings me to the point of writing this. Every summer we hear rumors as Laker fans of something big going to happen. This summer was the possibility of Durant. Last summer was Aldridge. Every year its something. Now in reality I never thought we would get Durant or Aldridge. Why would we. We weren't really good had a bunch of young players and our 'superstar" was past his prime and couldn't stay healthy. Which is fine but other then signing one year deals or taking on contracts with assets included the Lakers haven't made any good moves in a very long time. The front office Jim and Mitch as much as Ive tried to like I'm done with. Im going to go through some of there recent moves.

Timofey Mozgov - Bid against ourselves. Rather then waiting we set the market which isn't a smart thing to do. Gave 4 years to a 30 center who just had knee surgery and said it still wasn't right. Grade D-
Luol Deng - Gave 4 years to a 31 year old tweeter who has over 29,000 minutes on his body. Grade C-
Clarkson - Signed him rather then letting another team set his value thus cutting into space for next offseason. Grade C
Lou Williams - signed for 3 years 21 million not bad but took minutes from Clarkson and Russell. Grade C+
Roy Hibbert - Gave up a 2nd rounder for him. Never did anything terrible move. D-
Brandon Bass - Great veteran. Good locker room presence. Grade B
Ed Davis - Signed him cheap not too bad. Grade B
Carlos Boozer - Veteran with zero defense. So bad no one wanted him last year. Grade D
Jeremy Lin - Acquired him with a 1st round pick just for taking his contract. A move we should of done a lot more of. Grade B+
Nick Young - Extended him for no apparent reason. Grade F
Byron Scott - Terrible coach for a young team. Grade F

Im just struggling trying to go back and find any good deals. Please add on to this post about other deals we have made and grade them for me. I know not everyone has the same opinion as me but I'm just tired of the Lakers front office having no clue what direction they want this team to go.

You want high draft picks? This is what it's like when you have high draft picks? It ain't all roses...

That said, every thread on the front page seems to be a FO rant thread... No need for another.
