What's Kobe's role with the Lakers...?

I thought that the Lakers would have hired Kobe as an Assistant Coach, Director of Player Development (or something along those lines), potentially a Part Owner...in other words, he'd still be attached to the franchise in some shape to be used as a recruiting pitch. e.g. Play for LA to carry my torch, or to continue my legacy, something like that.
You think Kobe turned down this opportunity?
Or, you think behind the scenes the Lakers felt as if they'd paid Kobe more than enough and didn't want anything to do with him?

Definitely doesn't want anything to do with basketball.
Last post game "Kobe, are you sure? Sure you want to retire.... 60 points..."
"I'm sure. Hah, I'm sure. Absolutely sure."
You can tell he's burnt on basketball, and it would surprise me if he ever did anything outside of marketing or promotion for the NBA for the rest of his life. He definitely limped to the finish line to say he made it 20 years.

Kobe is currently putting his heart and soul into Kobe Inc.
He's been planning his post NBA life for a few years and as all things Kobe I'm sure Kobe Inc. and it's projects will be wildly successful
He's also expecting a third kid in the coming months

He's definitely done with basketball for now. Although he has said he is willing to workout with anyone who wants to train with him. I know Buddy Heald said he had a chance to workout with Kobe, and Kobe tought him a lot.
His main focus is expanding Kobe inc. and that takes a lot of time and focus. That being said tho... I wouldn't count out the possibility of him either being a partial owner, or doing something with the front office maybe 4 or 5 yrs down the road.

Would Kobe be a good coach? Byron: "No. Kobe would kill somebody."

I've met with his production company before. He'll go full force producing multimedia content, wants to tell stories.
I wouldn't rule out a once in a while recruiting stint, though. It seems he would want Westbrook to carry the torch going forward.

yea he is done. And don't tell me this crap about how good he would be if he was a coach. He wouldn't be a good coach. Great players are never good coaches. Its always the benchwarmers who make the best coaches. Plus, if your coach can beat you in a game of 21, then you don't need to be a NBA player.

From everything I've read the past 3 years and the things HE's said out of his mouth he doesnt want to coach at all and is trying to do some type of storytelling thing. He produced the Kobe's Muse mini doc. I wouldn't be surprised if his next endeavor has 0 to do with basketball

I see Kobe being a Magic/Hakeem hybrid. A guy who has 2-5% ownership stake in the Lakers (like Magic did), and a guy who works out other NBA talent over the summer. Teaching them footwork, and offensive techniques (the way Hakeem teaches these guys post moves over the summer).

He's been in the NBA for 18 years. I'm sure he'll pop up again, but considering how driven he was to be the best, it seems pretty reasonable to think he'll want to take a few years away as "vacation".

According to Ireland the Buss fam barely retains their majority so there's no more stakes in the team to go around.

Why would he want to be an assistant coach?

Kobe is having another girl.
I hope has a boy in the next few years. It would be cool to see a 3rd generation NBA Bryant. Come on Kobe. You need another man in the house. Lol. Just use a test tube and pick the sex you can afford it lol.
The Rock has 3 daughters as well. Killer athletic DNA.
BTW. Kobe said he would never want to coach. I think Kobe will be the next Magic and have a better post NBA career than his great NBA career. He is making movies. He was funny on the EspYs last night, he is doing business and he is calling everyone for advice. It's just a matter of time until he gets a big paying gig as a CEO or he opens his own movie studio or something.

From what I understand that's what Kobe Inc. is...

Only in the summer.....look I can tell by this post you're a young fan. Star players hardly ever get right into ball after retiring....they usually do it after 3-4 years of being away from the game. For Kobe his life scheme is way bigger than ball now, I doubt very seriously that he's involved with the Lakers much less the NBA.

Kobe needs to do business stuff. I think he's too competitive to be a good coach. He'll be one of those perfectionist, guys that's never happy, and will wear his players to the nub. Personally, I think it would be a disaster. Kobe knows it too. He's said it many times in his career..."I'm an a-hole." "I dont have friends" etc etc....he knows it. He'd be foolish to try and coach. And he's not a fool.
Now give it 10-12 years, and I could see it as a possibility...but ehhhh. Just go rule business. I'm with one of the posters above: Have a son....and torment him. Instill that insane demon-like drive/fire.....and then tell him he has to be a Laker.
