Russell vs Ingram

Post#1 » by K-FRESH24 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 4:59 am

Just a little curious as I've been hearing this on the radio and such. Why are we so quick to give the team to Ingram? Have your opinions on Russell's ceiling/floor changed? In other words, has Ingram's potential surpassed Russell's?

Why? Everything I see from the summer league suggests that Russell has seized the reins and the rest of the franchise seems more than happy to see him take control.

Sophomores are better than rookies. I think Ingram will have the better career.

I've never been impressed by Russell. Not sure how he was deemed a 2 pick. Doesn't do anything spectacular, and is careless with the ball. Seems immature also. Don't see him ever becoming a multiple all star but I hope I'm wrong.

A package including Russell in exchange for Westbrook would be the ideal scenario for the Lakers.

Build around Westbrook, Ingram, and Randle

It'll be Ingrams team, simply because he has more potential on both ends of the floor. I like the ball in Russell's hands as a decision maker and running the offense. But I think both guys have so much room to grow still and they'll both be options 1a and 1b for quite some time.
Russell has bigger knocks to his game than Ingram does. With Ingram, its just mostly his weight, but with Russell there are some maturity and carelessness issues as well as athleticism; which can't be taught.
On the bright side, Rusell dominated the SL with his newly added strength, and both players will be allstars for several years IMO.

Well good thing you're not in a position of power. Not sure how you can be unimpressed by Russell, but impressed enough with Ingram to think he will stop Westbrook from walking. Makes no logical sense.

Not sure there is a 'Russell vs Ingram' but if anyone ever did ask me to choose, I'd choose Ingram and not lose sleep about it...

I'm another one who doesn't think Russell really deserves the hype he's gotten... But he does do a lot of things well. I just don't see him as a franchise leading star for the reasons previously stated... I think Ingram has those things.

I think the whole 'Russell's the Leader' thing is pretty premature, and I hope if Ingram starts showing he can take over, he doesn't get Byron-ed in the name of Russell's Leadership.

What I will say however is, great PGs seem to take a little longer to blossom than other players, and Russell has the raw skills, if not the athleticism and explosiveness. I think he'll have a long career if he keeps focused on being a better basketball player instead of the 'leader of the Lakers.'

Personally, I'm still in the mindset that this will be D'lo's team for the foreseeable future, barring any big move. Not to say that Ingram won't pan out.

Who is talking about this? Steve Mason? SMFH.

I think DLo's stint under Byron makes fans severely underrate the level of prospect he was coming in. If LA wasn't in need a big man last year, Lakers picking DLo over Okafor isn't even a "thing". Dude was the 2nd prospect on a lot of teams boards. The kid might seriously be an all star within a year or so.

I dont know what their potential is but when I see people say stuff like he won't be as good as Harden or Steph or whomever I just sit back and think about what did those guys look like in year 1 and 2. Before 2 seasons ago no one even considered Steph Curry to even be a top 5 player in the league let alone top 10.

I haven't seen enough of Ingram at this point however I have seen enough of Russell to see that he doesn't have the mental approach to lead a good team. Maybe he can change that but it isn't like raising your FT %.

Our last 3 years drafting seems to have found gems in the second round with Clarkson and Zubac and gotten us some good 3rd banana players at the top. Not that we could have drafted much better rather just what was there. Really hasn't been a true top tier player below the first pick in a while.

I don't like the idea of this being D'Angelo's team. He's still a black whole on defense and can often go through a tunnel vision and be reckless with TO's. I may be blasted for this but I think both Ingram and Zubac have a greater ceiling than him. I think Ingram will go through a gradual transition from 3&d player to an all-star similar like PG and Jimmy Butler did. I see Russell as maybe being a rich man Jamal Crawford.
