An old interview with Mike Trudell detailing her start and relationship taking care of Kobe and Pau.

Trudell: How did your relationship with the Lakers first begin?

Dr. Seto: I've been working with the Lakers for 20 years or more. I remember working with Jerry West early on in my career. If I didn't do a good job or get positive results with Jerry, that probably would impact how many future Lakers I'd see. It mushroomed from there. One thing that stands out about Jerry was him asking me, on a scale of 1-10, how I'd rank myself as a physical therapist. I knew I was better than average, but didn't want to sound arrogant and knew I still had a lot to learn, so I said "six." I was trying to be humble to a degree, but I just thought if I said I was a 10, there would be nowhere to go and imply I had learned everything. He quipped, "Then why am I seeing you?"

I don't think this has a whole lot to do with Kobe not being there. I think this has more to do with the new UCLA facility... She wasn't really needed anymore.

I beg to differ especially if you saw one of Kobe's documentary where Kobe had physical trainers available at his disposal. Judy Seto was credited as "the Secret Weapon" (See article here) and now that you have Kobe gone, a lot of people like Judy who were previously employeed to cater to Kobe will not have their time occupied. Kobe isn't waking up 4 am in the morning going to the gym anymore. The UCLA training facility is just a building. You still need training staff and specialist, but with Kobe gone theres just less demand.

I'm not sure this is the case since they did sign that former Bulls staff to take her place.

SK was right on the money.
Judy's expertise was retained throughout these years because of Gary Vitti and Kobe.

An she was on point with her methods to the point that they all overlooked her as a woman. Whereas most of the time the staff is men due to lockeroom access and so on. If you watched Kobe's Muse documentary (where he's rehabbing his Achilles) he showed how much he truly valued Judy.

As for Swanson I wouldn't automatically consider this hiring as a win right off the bat. There's a reason for her availability. Here's a pretty negative article on her firing from the Bulls organization.

Just gotta hope our youngs guns don't even need to work with this guy as they can stay healthy
