The next era of Lakers basketball will start in earnest in less than two weeks.
The team’s annual media day is scheduled for Sept. 26, after which they’ll depart for six days of practice at UC Santa Barbara, the team announced today. Camp opens Sept. 27 and continues through Oct. 2. Four of those days will involve two-a-day workouts for the team and first-year Coach Luke Walton.
It’s the first time since 1999 the Lakers have held training camp in Santa Barbara. Last season’s camp was in Hawaii, for the 13th time in franchise history. The team initially announced that this season’s training camp would be held at the Lakers practice facility in El Segundo, but those plans changed a few weeks ago.
Throughout the off-season, several players have practiced together informally at the team’s facility, including several veterans and the team’s young core of D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson. This year’s draft picks -- second-overall pick Brandon Ingram and second-round pick Ivica Zubac -- have joined the veterans.
Camp, though, involves the first official and mandatory practices of Walton’s tenure as head coach.
The Lakers open the preseason Oct. 4 in Anaheim against the Sacramento Kings. They begin the regular season at home against the Houston Rockets on Oct. 26.
LA TIMESInteresting, the LA times reporter of the article used to be the beat writer for the Texans while I was in Houston.

I remember I used to have serious anticipation each media day to see if Andrew Bynum neither recovered from one of his numerous injuries or developed his physique/skill set.

Was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to watch it live as I'm in SF today, but was able to get the sports net app working so...can't wait!

Looks like Lakers Media day is being streamed live on Youtube. Not sure how long it'll be up but I thought I'd post it for our out of towners.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvy-Exz3FJ0Hope it doesn't get pulled. If it does, hopefully some people are able to at least catch a portion of it.

Larry Nance sounded really excited about the prospect of having a Randle/Nance PF/C lineup.

Good to keep in mind that this is his first full and healthy offseason he's had to work on his game. Something he did not have his first two summers.

Theres a lot of people who don't see him being a good player. I'm rooting for him to prove them wrong.

I really like Ingram's attitude and the way he carries himself during interviews but i don't know if i have ever heard somebody use the phrase "of course" as much as he does.
