Fellow LA fans, what are your HONEST thoughts on Randle?


I LOVE his work ethic and how hard he plays, the kids got so much heart, thats not a question. My concern is that hes played the same exact way for two years now, he's almost like a black hole, he catches on the higih post, low post, wing, he's thinking one thing and thats duck your head and score, its killed the offense at times and made him look out of control. I also think he is much better suited for the 4 than 3 position.


Your thoughts on him? Honestly, I wouldn't mind shopping him around to see what interest there is of his.

Same exact way for two years now? Do you mean the 14 minutes in year one? Or the 19 minutes in preseason game one?

My honest opinion ?

He's a beast. His opponent always dare him to shoot but he can ALWAYS blow them up with his dribble and quickness. Beast rebounder too and has clutch gene. How many PF has that big ball to handle the ball in the end of the game and iso ?

I also find the criticism about Randle doesn't know his limitation is unfair. He's top prospect coming out of HS and still a top 3-4 pick if it wasn't his injury/screw in his foot, or if Magic didnt trying to be a smartass and draft Aaron Gordon (destroyed by Randle in NBA game).

Fans wanted him to be a simple PF, thats why many of them wanted Nance to start, but no, its not your concern. A good coach can utilize 5 ballhandlers in 1 unit lineup.

I think he has great role player potential but as of right now needs to find a solid jumper and work on his offensive instincts. His offensive instincts are just bad. Doesn't know when or how to score when needed or when to move the rock at the right time. The skills/tools are there though.

As much as people accuse Randle of being a black hole or having tunnel vision, it's like they themselves have tunnel vision when watching him... I'm HONESTly flummoxed how anyone could look at Randle's last season and not see him playing the game differently as the season progressed. Or how anyone who watched him competing against team USA could not see how his game's developing...
He hit at least 2 nice open jumpers from the top of the key last game in stride... They were some of the best by anyone last game.

This is a kid with a ton of upside... To me, the problem is people just don't like his style of play. But I think older guys can respect it more, because it's much more like how PFs used to play the game.

Honestly, I think he has the potential to be one of the best PFs in the league in the next few years and I think trading him for anything less than a superstar would result in a lot of regret in Laker land.

I don't think we have seen what he is capable of, and I look forward to seeing him in Luke's free flowing system. The question is, can he develop into a competent defender?

Randle has raw ability no doubt. His skill level is where he's got some holes. A lot of athlete first players are like that. The once that continue to develop stick around and have success the ones that don't are usually gone when their athletic advantage is diminished or nullified.

I see him as an unfinished player. One who could have really benefited from 3 years of college ball. I think he advanced last year however I also think he's got a ways to go to be a cog on a really good team. All of our last 3 years picks similar in that they all need to develop a lot. NBA odds are not in our favor that all 3 do. I'm going to enjoy watching the group this season without overly optimistic expectations.

I think one of the main things he needs to work on now is his relationship with the referees. I can see Julia get hit with multiple loads of offensive fouls throughout the season and we can't have that in critical finishes.

His combination of raw power and speed is rivaled by few if any, that right there gives him the potential to be special. At the same time, he has some real shortcomings and numerous basic skills he has to work on, so he's really far away from even getting to the point that he can be a special unique player. Aside from rebounding and bringing the ball up the court, his impact and performance was rather poor at every other facet of the game. Good thing is all indications are he's putting in the work to become the best player he can be.

Also i think it's obvious that Randle has some serious weaknesses he has to work on, and sometimes a handful of posters are in denial about that, but holy hell are there a lot of people around here over the top with their constant negative attitude towards Randle. Give it a rest for a game or two.

I'm actually seeing him making early passes in most situations when he handles the ball so its a welcome change already under Luke. Also had a lovely finish with his right hand in the game vs Nuggets which shows some signs of improvement.

I still don't know. Sometimes I wanna tell him that there is an option to pass the ball when you are surrounded by opponents - don't force shooting the ball in traffic but then he will make a very good play like grabbing the rebound, run with the ball then make a good dish. I'm worried by how he drives to the basket 'coz it always seems that he has no control and might end up being called for offensive foul but then he will end up making the basket. It's like love - hate. Sometimes I wanna trade him but sometimes it's okay that he is here. What I like is how he can rebound and hopefully he can develop a perimeter game.

He will get better when he learns to slow down. Right now he has one speed. He also needs to learn to dribble with his fingertips. He's always on the edge of control when he's moving up the floor because he's dribbling with his palms.

I don't see him improving his finishing in the paint however. That is a function of his height and reach vs the rest of the league's front line. We need to keep him in space and he needs to develop a consistent jumper ala David West.

The first 2 preseason games has been enough to show me that Randle is a changed player under Luke. He's been making great decisions with the ball and even his turnovers are the result of him trying to make the right play. His screen setting has improved (actually making contact on the majority of his screens now) and he hasn't forced a shot in the lane yet. How many wide open buckets did we get as the result of him pushing the ball?

Defensively he still needs a lot of work (his awareness has improved but I still see him getting lost in rotations more than our other bigs) but that should improve with time.

1. learn to defend
2. learn to shoot the 20 foot jumper
3. learn to pass

the motor and youth is there.

Love Randle. He's strong and is not afraid of anybody. We need him on this team. My only issues with him are that he seems to forget what to do on offense (can't remember his role in the play?) and being to aggressive with his body on defense.

I saw a clip of him learning the Euro step form Kyrie. If he learns how to move his body in traffic he will be unstoppable because he will draw a lot of fowls and cannot be stopped.

Randle is a pretty cool guy, he has a lot of talent and doesn't afraid of anything.

He's clearly not focusing as much on rebounds this year but he seems much more comfortable offensively... I like that he seems to be looking to pass first in most situations and his shot looks pretty deadly.
One thing I'd love to see him improve on is better read/reacts on switches on the Defensive side. He stays home on his guy a lot, which is good, but he needs to get a better feel of when to contest and then he needs to contest hard.

It's a learning process, but it looks like he's been working on all the things guys wanted him to work on last year... I think he even finished with his right a couple times last night unless I was seeing things...

It's a process... And it's preseason... But not sure how you could fault his development at this point, and really not sure why anyone would want to give up on that kind of talent this soon... Seems pretty stupid to me.

one thing I've noticed about Randle so far is how he's being used in pick and rolls this season. He is rolling to the basket this year which we barely saw him do last year during the few times he was actually used in the pick and roll.
