D'angelo Russell Injury watch

What exactly is wrong with Russell's knee? I've heard "sore knee" but that's about it. Is it a contusion from a collision or is it internal? I don't remember any point of injury in a game either.

Small sample but looking at how he likes to baby his ankle injuries in the past it might simply be a matter of a low pain tolerance threshold he has.

That aside. I've heard nothing about the actual injury.

Luke with the Phil-like subtle head-game shot at Russell...

“We want him to push and be aggressive,” Luke Walton said. “You can’t play at this level by favoring it. If that’s the case where it hurts, then we need to shut him down until he’s healthy. The league is too good only to go halfway and show some of the stuff that you can do because you’re concerned that something might hurt.”

Russell told Walton his left knee “feels about the same” after Sunday’s game.

“I thought he was favoring it a little bit,” Walton said. “I don’t know if he was hurt or it was in his head. But it felt like he was floating around the perimeter more than normal.”

Russell not only getting on Scott's nerves.

Get mad all you want, but Russ is too high maintenance for me. I would not get along with his personality if I was a teammate and he's the most expendable asset to me.

I agree... But I'm sort of hoping it's just the result of another kid who was talented enough his whole life to compete/dominate without thinking about it or trying too hard, that's finally in a sea of equals and hasn't figured out how to adapt yet...

I think Scott may have been a convenient excuse for him a little bit too... Now Luke took the opposite motivation tack and essentially told the world the team was his to lead, thus forcing his hand... Unfortunately it may have been a little much for Russell.

Definitely crossroads time for the young guy though.

I saw this coming. Somebody has to talk to this guy. I don't think the Lakers have time for Cousins kind of personality. They will bottle it up and let him play to raise his trade value and let him go quick.

He hasn't improved at all from his rookie season. In fact you could argue he's regressed from the second half of last year, and that's with Walton as coach. If he's going to start blaming a "sore knee" for sucking then that doesn't make me too optimistic. Out of our core I want him gone the most, especially since he still has a high trade value. He doesn't have the upside I once thought he had.

I think we're overreacting a bit here. Everything doesn't have to be an indictment on someone's character/toughness. These are growing pains (no pun intended).

He's always had "fake swag" to me. The "fake" confidence he exudes is not really in his bones -- he's insecure.

He had a "so-so" high school career and had one good year in college as the centerpiece.

Without those fancy spinning passes, he wouldn't have been drooled over nearly as much as he was ... and, much like crossover dribbles, they really aren't that practical a basketball skill anyway.

I would've never drafted him that high, but, now that he's here, you've got to nurture and maximize his talent.

He needs to be surrounded by players, especially in the backcourt, that balance out his deficiencies. He needs vets like Lou Williams, but Lou Williams won't help him become a better defender or to make an impact in more ways than scoring. Kobe might've never been an a-plus defender if not for the influence of Eddie Jones. That's why I've never liked guys like Williams and Clarkson in the same rotation with Russell -- dude won't learn or be pushed to become a well-rounded player with those two dudes in tow.

The team as presently constructed doesn't even need his skillset to win.

He needs to be placed in a situation, like Ohio State, and unlike high school, where his skillset is a commodity on the team. On this team, he's just another guard who shoots alot.

If he were surrounded by quick, athletic guards who defend like animals but lacked his savvy and shooting, he'd have a much better chance for success.

I'm not gonna go downward spiral on this kid till next year . That's a good lead to tell. However, if he's hurt. Simple. Sit him down.

Kind of weird, he posted on his instagram story a video of him doing leg workouts and lifting weights so I thought he was going to play for sure. I'm cool with him sitting tho, if you're hurt, sit, heal up, and come back when you're ready. Knees aren't anything to mess with.

I remember last year Okafor was sitting out with sore knees couple games at a time. Then has knee surgery over the off season and barely healing up now.

The best fit for Russell in the NBA is 100% the 76ers

Missing two games? That decision to let him play against Chicago not looking very wise right now.

I don't get it. What is wrong with the knee? Is it a contact injury or something structural inside the knee? "Sore knee" could really be anything.

Luke's comments isn't good. That seems pretty clear that there is a difference of opinion on his injury. You don't discuss this outside the locker room in that manner if its a serious injury IMHO. That was motivational jab ala Zen.

Someone can check my work but I think Dlo is the only person to ever put up a Per36 in Pts, Stls, Rebs, and Ast under the age of 20. Clearly its a small sample size but so far.....
