Ok so I'm as big of a Lakers homer as you'I'll find anywhere. If there's a Luke thread already in existence please close this one but if there's not he definitely deserves one. The ball movement has been a thing of beauty!
If we can get a little more talent and develop the talent we have we will be Bad Ass!

Re: Luke Walton appreciation thread
Do these "awards" mean anything anymore? I say no. Kobe was the best player of his generation and got 1 MVP while being the first player GM's would take on a theoretical team for 15 years. It's a popularity contest and one that has the NBA's marketing department's thumb on the scale IMHO.
Luke's done a great job offensively. The heavy lifting on a young team isn't typically getting them to learn offense. It's on the defensive end where we have seen a considerable lack of effort at times and on top of that issues with the players knowing what to do. I'm thinking that it's a work in progress (hoping) and that defense will be stressed in the near future.
The team is tracking the biggest one season improvement in wins right now. It's still very early but if that does happen it would be hard not to give it to him if it's really based on merit.

I understand Luke has been awesome, but I disagree with some of you here when it comes to the improved defense. I have actually been dissapointed with the D - we give up way too many points. I will say that players seem more interested in defense and take more pride on that end though.

Wooden — Jackson — Walton
Coach of the year certainly likely. He has my vote. They'll just keep getting better too throughout the season, typical for many teams with a new coach/system, so I don't think it's too homeriffic to predict he'll deserve it and get it.

It just takes longer for younger players to get good on defense. Offense comes natural for them, it's what they've been working on their whole lives, defense not so much. Even Thibs whose supposed to be a defensive wizard can't get the Wolves to play good defense and they have way better defensive players than we have. So i'd say just give it some time and we'll see more

Also, the Lakers are second highest in pace, so naturally they are going to allow a lot of points...
