Kobe Bryant is going to train with Ingram

Post#1 » by RingsDontLie » Fri Feb 17, 2017 1:03 pm

Out of the whole team Ingram has the most potential and it is nice to see Kobe reaching out:

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/kobe-bryant-appears-to-be-ready-to-work-out-with-lakers-rookie-brandon-ingram/

This will do Ingram good IMO as there are a lot of simple things that he can pick up from Bryant. Its those little small things that Bryant does that add up. I hope Ingram picks up on those things and makes them a habit. I think Bryant probably sees Ingram's work ethic and determination as a positive. The will and drive is there it is just not translating on the court.

This should be a great off season for Ingram if true. Its one of those things that can inspire and change his game I gather.

Kobe had an off-season where he gained like 20 lbs and came back looking like a brick s**thouse. Maybe he can spend an off-season at Kobe's house and Kobe can teach him that.

that is the year he dunked on Howard. I just want Kobe to teach him his work habits and footwork.
How's this for an almost unbelievable Laker trivia: The Lakers will miss the playoffs this year for the 3rd time since 1976.

He got tapped.

This summer Kobe told Mike Bresnahan, "I would love to come by. "I've spoken with Luke (Walton) several times, (Brian) Shaw as well. I let the players know that I'm always around, man. I'm always around. If they wanna come out, and work out, wake up early in the morning to work out, walk them through some things."

As far as I know, nobody on the Laker roster, including all the young guys who played with him, took him up on that offer. Jordan Clarkson did compare Kobe to an "ex-girlfriend" and talked about having to move on.

On the other hand, Buddy Hield had a well-publicized workout with Kobe this summer,. So I don't know what the other Lakers are doing, but I guess they're not into working hard.

By all accounts, Brandon Ingram is. That's encouraging, because he has the right attitude, the mindset of a winner. Humble, hard-working, and doesn't put himself above the team. Kobe can definitely help him with being aggressive, improving his footwork instead of reaching for shots, getting to the line, etc. Most of all, a little more Mamba mentality in a team-first guy. Ingram looks a lot more like Nic Batum than Kevin Durant so far, and we need to nip that in the bud.

We need to see what this kid is capable of.

After all, Kevin Durant said, "“First person I can say, that I can look at him and feel like I’m looking in the mirror.” (Serena Winters)

I'm excited to see him in his sophomore year, when many great players take the next step.

I think this will be great for Ingram and his post game--where his biggest advantage exists. He already has some moves like the turnaround fadeaway, but his footwork should greatly improve to help him get closer shots to the rim out of the post. Ingram seems obsessed with the game, so this is a good pairing.

A slow, fat, plodding, snake that slowly squeezes the life out of it's opponents? Is it too late for Ingram to cancel?

I mean, if you can't catch Mowgli, we don't want you near Ingram.

Maybe it will work. Kobe was known to put in the work. He was also known for eating large pizzas and had a serious penchant for In-n-Out. A combo of those two things might actually put a little weight on Ingram. Double-Double with Animal Fries and a large shake.... Mmmmmmm....

Randle apparently did over the summer time, but he didn't want to confirm it.

They aren't Lakers but, Kyrie, Hayward and Westbrook worked out with Kobe as well. Hopefully Ingram can pickup the footwork in the post from him and also the mental aspect of the game.

Ive always felt like these type of training sessions were publicity stunts. Kobe went to see Hakeem during the summer yet, kobe's footwork and post game was already masterful so I didnt see that much addition to his game. Dwight went to see Hakeem how did that work out. Working with Kobe defiantly wont hurt but I wouldn't expect much

Along with Ingram working out with Kobe, I'd like to see him workout with KD also. With all the skinny references and all that KD should know his way around that and should be able to teach Ingram. Might be a long shot since they're divisional rivals, but you never know.

Dwight is a poor example because he is set in his ways. I see the same work ethic in Ingram that Kobe had so I think Ingram could learn a lot from Kobe just from the mental approach to the game. Ingram has all the tools already, but the maturity, mentality and that fierceness to his game just isn't there yet.

ingram could learn a thing or two about getting by his defenders using his long ass strides. the old man 24 uses his length and quick first step (not #8 quick, but still, pretty damn quick) to perfection to get by his defenders and also finish with his length.

maybe its more of getting new perspective when they play in the post, not necessarily getting new moves etc., what hakeem sees when the defender do this, what he would do, etc.

I'd like to see Kobe put on a week long camp and invite all the young "core."
1. to see who excepts.
2. to see who finishes.

Imagine Ingram with 2005-09 Kobe's footwork, basketball IQ, work ethic, defense and shooting? Damn

That would be epic! Get Hakeem to teach the dream shake, Magic and Worthy? Just get guys to learn all-time great moves! If this happens it must be on LakersTV!!!

Kobe was just trying to polish his game. Hakeem helped out LeBron too, and LeBron came out for the better. Development takes more than a summer working out with a guy since it has to be practiced at game speeds instead of just one on one. It's unrealistic to expect great improvement out of everyone. Kobe got pointers from God Shammgod.

Players from different teams have been working out together whether it gets filmed or not.
