Lakers looking to buy out Calderon

Lakers Nation Report:
Stein added that the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets would be interested should the Lakers ultimately buy out Calderon:
This move makes sense on a ton of levels for the Lakers. Calderon is not a regular part of the rotation and with the youth movement likely won’t be going forward either. Buying him out would allow him to join a playoff team while still collecting his money for this season.

Good, opens up minutes for Clarkson as a back up PG and gets Brewer in as a defensive minded back up SG to Young.

Yep. Calderon's services on this team are no longer needed, especially with Ennis.

This is one of those 'who cares?' things. If anyone wanted him.....why didn't we get value for him? There's 21 games left....just sit him on the bench, and don't play him (like we did all year anyhow).

How does this do the Lakers any good?

Have to say one thing , I'm not sure if Magic is the person making these calls but every move now actually makes sense. Huertas never made any sense on this team, Lou Will taking shots away from Russell never made sense either and now Calderon being gone is another thing that just seems logical and right.
If its Ryan West and Jesse Buss making these decisions, it kind of makes you think whether Mitch and Jim were suppressing quality thought from within the organization for all the dumbass mistakes they committed.

You already know this but even if magic isn't the one making these deals you still have to give him credit for allowing them to happen.

It's a business move. His full contract will still count against our cap for the rest of the year, but by buying him out we'll be able to negotiate a discount on how much we actually have to pay him for the rest of the year, and he'll be able to make up the difference (or more) by signing with another team. Plus, it keeps us in good standing with his agent by showing we were willing to cut a deal. Business move.

Yup. Even if it isn't Magic him so far things are running smoothly and he deserves some credit for at least knowing to stay out of they way and let these guys work... That's if it really isnt him. If it is him, he might be proving us all wrong lol.
Also, Magic and Jeanie fired Mitch, Jim, and even John Black. Would've been easy to include Ryan West if they didn't know what they were doing. Gotta give them credit for at leat that. I know a lot of people wanted Ryan for GM but Ryan is only 37, a lot of GMing years left in his future. The fact that he's still around still leaves hope he might take over at some point down the road.

I've heard Magic say the dumbest stuff while in civilian clothes, but I have liked all the moves so far. Maybe he does know how to run a business.

Im guessing these moves were happening no matter who was in charge cause of the deadline. The deadline was the catalyst not the regime change imo.

All these transactions from the new management are all classy. FO is really building great rapport with agents and other teams' FOs.
^Then I read doc's post. I'm not taking it back though.

Good opportunity to see what Ennis can do. This is potentially his last chance in the NBA.

Ding ding ding.
Jim and Mitch have been a cancer for years. Yes they got us some great tanking picks, but it was little Jesse and Ryan who found us those gems we call Clarkson, Nance, Zubac.
Just imagine if we fired Jim and Mitch this past summer. We would have cap space and probably a better roster.

Yeah, but lose our pick through so in a away we need to tank as long as possible to avoid giving picks to the Sixers and Magic, and build up assets too.

Do you think Kupchak would've eventually agreed to send Lou Williams to Houston? I know the deal had been on the table for a while, but do you think Kupchak & Co. would've let Lou go, a guy on a great run, to Houston -- to explode? Kupchak likes to "win" trades. He may have been afraid to pull the trigger on this one for fear of Lou's almost guaranteed success in Houston and how the trade may appear, on the surface, to be a "loss".

This move shows that we tried and failed to trade him at the Deadline more than anything else.
Those who think Magic will save the day just wait until he turns on the young guys. It will happen by the deadline next year. The devil you know....

It's a show of good faith to Calderon and his agent. Having a good rep around the league is only going to help us,
