Kind of expected. I figured the other family members would not take too kindly to how Jeannie did in her brother. Now they are giving her a taste of her own medicine.

Wow!!
Jim is pissed even though he set his deadline and he screwed up the team badly. Friggin Jim. He signs 2 desperate vets giving them a boatload of money and an unimaginable 4 years without an option and now he wants to oust Jeannie and own the Lakers?
This is unfortunate but Jeannie has to now remove Johnny since he is plotting against her. Man, this feels like a warped Godfather movie.

Jeannie has no authority to remove Johnny or Jim as owners so that is a moot point. Clearly though they need to sell the team.

Magic has it all set up.
I literally asked my wife this morning if she'd heard anything about any court filings about this. Just knew something was going on.

How about Magic buys the team, hands the president of operations to Jerry west.
KIDDING: Jim is clueless. He ruined our franchise and we will have a reminder of it every day for the next four years.

If Jeannie didnt know before, now she knows Johnny doesnt stand with her. She may not be able to force his share but she sure can control who manages and controls the team as the President of the team and make sure she doesnt have Johnny or Jim's guys on board anywhere, if possible.
This will get worse.

Who knows how this works. If every other member of the family is on Jim's side, I don't see how Jeannie will remain team president even if she has the thrust on her side.
I don't see how anyone is shocked this happened though. She never gave Jim the chance to step down in the offseason like he said he would be and she then went on to completely eviscerate him with article after articles. I doesn't help either that the timing (two days before the trade deadline was horrible and made us look completely dysfunctional. Pretty sure after that, every other brother was pissed at Jeannie as well.

Maybe the brothers should be more pissed at Jim for *****ng up the team than Jeannie for firing him after so many years.
Maybe the brothers should be pissed about the 4 friggin year deals to Deng and Moz.
Mabye the brothers should be pissed about not getting FAs in to even an interview.

Pretty sure that takes a major back seat over having your own brother treated that way publicly by another member of the family. As it should when i comes to family.

Re: Power Struggle for Lakers Ownership Emerging Among Buss Family
I think this was a long time coming. Jim and Jeanie don't get along. Haven't for a while.
Le'ts review the quote...shall we? “I was laying myself on the line by saying, if this doesn’t work in three to four years, if we’re not back on the top — and the definition of top means contending for the Western Conference, contending for a championship — then I will step down because that means I have failed”
Three to Four years. So in one sense he's a year late. But that's not my argument....the point in that, is that I don't think the family is surprised by what she did. She said she'd do this in an interview a while back. So I think this runs deeper than the last couple weeks.
Jim will have an uphill battle here. He made the quote. He also really put the team through the pits. Even if you don't blame him, he's certainly not popular. Does he really get the family to oust the incredibly popular sister......fire Magic, and get the band back together? Yeah....that will go over well.
The part I find interesting is the part where he thinks he "just needs another year". If you made that quote.....and here you are 4 years later....are you really shocked and disappointed? lol
Well....it wouldn't be the Lakers if it were boring. Not surprised there's drama here. Jim needs to sell his share. This won't work, clearly. The firing of Mitch...and John Black, and now this just show the deep divides behind the scenes. I'm fine with Jeanie. But if the whole family just sold and split the empire, I'd be really ok with that.

Re: Power Struggle for Lakers Ownership Emerging Among Buss Family
Well I'm sure Joey and Jesse don't care too much since they got their own stuff to worry about within the organization (plus being from a different mother) Jim, Johnny, Jeanie, Janie only half brothers/sisters. So it all comes down to big brothers (Johnny and Jim) trying to oust little sister from power (Jeanie). Janie does the charity stuff and doesn't really get involved in the business or basketball aspect with the Lakers. So in reality it's just Jim and Johnny throwing hissy fits because they didn't get their way. Honestly screw what they have to say. Glad Jeanie is kicking those dumbasses out of the organization.

Re: Power Struggle for Lakers Ownership Emerging Among Buss Family
I just picture Jim going about this horribly. Signing a terrible, overpaid lawyer. Being unable to formulate a strategy...not getting anyone to agree with him, and just getting pounded to pulp by Jeanie and her legal team. Kinda like his former quest.
After watching the last 4 years....why would Johnny team up with this guy?
Well.....grab a beer....some popcorn, and get ready to watch the fireworks. It's publicly ON now.

It already has shades of the nixed CP3 deal. Jim just sorta doesn't get that whole "rules" thing.
lol....it's too funny.

Re: Power Struggle for Lakers Ownership Emerging Among Buss Family
There are a lot of factors going into this.
I think it's pretty clear that Jim/Johnny won't be able to cede control. It was pretty clear that Jeanie was/is the person meant to be the last one standing when it comes to control and that was Dr Buss's wishes.
Buss set up the trust to keep the team in the family, he also paid down inheritance tax to basically leave the kids with a golden goose. Any sort of sell or break up the trust can be quite significant financially.
Another factor, in which is an important one is the Buss kids own 66% of the team. Phil Anshuitz is the other significant owner in the team and he does have a role in this ownership structure. Anything that puts butts at Staples Center ( which he owns) is the direction he will want this team to go.
That being said, it's time to give the Jeanie/Magic regime a chance and if they fail they can fight, cry and whine about who runs the team or sell it and take a big loss and do exactly what your father didn't want.
