New FO: No to West Sr?

I thought adding a consultant like West Senior would be a dream but based on this article, Jeannie has said no to West Sr. I dont know if West Sr was seeking the GM role which is not the proper role for him at his age but would love to have the logo back as a consultant. The pitch for FAs from Magic and West Sr would be crazy.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2697145-lakers-show-loyalty-matters-more-than-family-with-new-magic-pelinka-front-office"Jerry West was interested in returning to the Lakers, where son Ryan has carved out a useful role with the old and new regime, but, though Jeanie Buss will forever revere Jerry, he didn't match her vision for the future, according to NBA sources."
A few other nuggests:
Buss and Kupchak alone made a decision that already looks fateful in more ways than one: to lavish free agent Luol Deng with a four-year, $72 million contract and compromise the Lakers' long-held salary-cap space for a worn-down non-difference-maker at the very position they'd just drafted Brandon Ingram to own... How much Kupchak's decision to spend last summer was tied to Jim Buss' promise to step down if the Lakers didn't reach contention this season is difficult to quantify, but Jeanie sure didn't take it as being loyal to the Lakers.
Based on the article, looks like Jeannie finally decided to make a move and she is going full-in and hard. She wants loyalty to Lakers!!

How will Magic and Pelinka work together?
Rob'em talks about becoming GM and particularly working with Magic from 1:37 minute:
"...been like a ying and a yang... Magic is like a visionary... I am the lawyer and the detail guy. Blocking and tackling"
Fully agree that Magic needed a detail stats guy and the Lakers need a visionary to rebuild us into a dynasty. The combo with West Jr and the continued strong draft pick will help us everywhere. I hope Rob'em turns into a Hinkie type that helps West Jr by providing more draft picks and prevents Magic or anyone from signing Deng/Moz into 4 year type of contracts.
Lastly, I hope Magic can convince Jeannie to bring West Sr into the mix as a consultant and not GM. He could help Magic and Pelinka plus become that FA attractor that landed Durant for GS. How could West Sr not be happy about being back in LA and working with Magic and West Jr?
Overall, I havent been this excited about the future in a long, long time...

Looks more and more like Pelinka is here for the tough negotiations, no more throwing in random pick protections nonchalantly in unnecessary trades.

if we're to draw a line between Jeanie and Jim, Jerry West falls on the side of Jim and Mitch. He always defended them. I think that's what Jeanie is probably getting it that he didn't fit the vision of the team, similarly to John Black.

John Black needs to write a "tell all" book about the Lakers. Oh, the things he knows.
I'm not sure who's coffee he pissed in, but I was sure surprised when he got axed. He musta done something. Interesting that you don't hear anything about him. No media asking questions (that I've heard) no explanations as to why he got fired.
I love Jerry West. Everything he touches turns to gold. I am sure he's gonna call reports that he wanted this job 'rubbish'. Honestly, I don't know why he'd leave GS right now. Jerry will turn 79 in 2 months...I don't think he needs to take on another rebuild. Even if he wanted to...as much as it pains me....I understand Jeanie wanting a crew that (hopefully) will stick around make this team all kick-arse again for the next 20 years or so.
Jerry would be a 4-5 year 'band-aid' AT BEST. And that's if he even said any of that...which I doubt big-time.

It's interesting for sure. Rob certainly didn't NEED this job. 5-times the work.....twice the stress....prob a 1/4 the pay. Not sure what the attraction is. I don't really know much about him. I think it's cool that this guy wanted the job.....clearly wanted to be apart of the whole 'Laker thing'. Gives me hope that that brand still holds.

The image and perception needs to get fixed, when that happens, FAs will take a chance on the Lakers again. We just need ONE. Just ONE good free agent signing and the rest can follow.

This is just crazy to me... We passed on an opportunity to bring Jerry West back... Not the other way around... That's insane.

Doesn't help either that Jerry left the Lakers because of Phil. I'm sure there's no love lost between Jeanie and West.

What's crazier to me is that he was ever allowed to leave in the first place.

Yeah. True that.
I'm curious to find out how true these rumors are. Why would anyone put Jerry's position at GS at risk? Why would Jerry put his position at risk?
This is too much information, too fast. I seriously doubt Jerry came inquiring about an opening this time in the season. I just really do. It's possible....but really doubt it. And if he did ask Jeanie, (who else would he ask?) I don't see her disclosing it.
“Jerry West was interested in returning to the Lakers, where son Ryan has carved out a useful role with the old and new regime, but, though Jeanie Buss will forever revere Jerry, he didn’t match her vision for the future, according to NBA sources.” <---All you seem to find. I checked about 8 web-sites. Nice and vague. Smells like BS to me.

Mozgov didn't count???
Kiddin'...I hear you. I agree completely. We just need to get that one guy. It won't answer every problem....but it will totally change the equation.

I'd love to hear that story sometime. J-West seems like such an easy guy to get along with. How those two could not co-exist, I don't get. Seems contradictory to Phil's whole "Zen" "Team" thing. Jerry's always had that "oh gee.....did I win the MVP...I didn't even know I was in the race!" Image.
Someone's got a paper-thin visage. Perhaps both?
Dig both guys. Both did us Lakers good. But I try not to idolize anyone too much. Sorta seems to lead to eventual disappointment. Damn shame the two didn't get along. Prob coulda owned the NBA

Phil Jackson's a dick. The irony is that it was probably the Kobe/Shaq dynamic that made the need for Jackson seem so dire.

http://www.insidesocal.com/lakers/2014/03/17/jerry-west-reflects-on-lakers-struggles-kobe-bryants-criticism-phil-jacksons-legacy/West and Jackson never got along. As detailed in his autobiography, West revealed a widely-reported story that Jackson once ordered him out of the locker room using a string of expletives in his first season in the 1999-2000 campaign. West left following that year in part because of Jackson’s relationship with the team’s current president Jeanie Buss

I'm not going to hate on either guy because I don't know them personally. But of the 2, Phil seems like the one who had the much bigger ego.

No prob, this is the same article where he defends Mitch and Jim from critics, pointing out how it helps no one for ex players on the outside to criticize the team, which no doubt was aimed primarily towards Magic
