I think we all knew this. Hopefully he's stretched or something this off-season.

I think the stretch comes out to like 7 years, if we do it now. That's a mighty long time to shell out $$

I'm hopeful that we can somehow trade him.

Just crazy. I was a big Mitch fan and feel he brought Championships here. But the Deng and Mozgov contracts are indefensible.

I don't think we should stretch them, but the combination of the cap going up with the reduced salary hit with a stretch might make the contract insignificant.

He and Deng have been done all season

No, you see his contract is actually very team-favorable due to the new cap. It's like only paying $13 million a year to have a guy sit, in 2013 NBA salary dollars.

That would be roughly 15mil for both..
Might be worth it but damn Mitch!

Might not have to stretch both but does open up some $$$ for Magic now.. and use his charms to get FA and not give up any assets...

I dont think there are free agents that would sign with us now but after next year why not. I say trade one, and waive the other. By then, there will be only two years left on the contracts, so it shouldn't cost too much to get rid of one of them.

Pelinka seemed to mention that the new CBA makes it easier to move contracts like Deng and Moz. Of course, the best option would be another amnesty and also the cap expanding to make the other one bearable.

Jim and Mitch's two most indefensible moves proved to be their last.

Funny, but although I wouldn't have made the move for Mozgov, I got it then and still do.

Over the many years, I've given Kupchak & Co. hell for their many inadequate moves, but this one, to me, isn't nearly as catastrophic as many make it out to be.

Signing Deng as a starting SF, to me, is the real death wish. The Mozgov signing I get, Deng at SF, not so much.

I didn't get Mozgov or Deng. Mozgov made no sense when Hibbert failed. I don't care if you put Prime Mutumbo out there, the fact remains we would be bad until Randle tries to play actual defense. And don't give me he's small, Malone was small. He has no actual concept of how to rotate, how to help, or even how to use his hands and strip the ball like KArl was doing KG, Tim, and Yao his year here which is silly laziness on his part when MWP is in the locker room. There is no stationary or defensive center who could cover for Randle. You would basically have to either bring him off the bench or saw screw it and try to simply outscore everyone like Amare teams used to do with him as the small 5, but unlike Amare he can't finish like a man at the rim on offense either off the pick and roll so thats hard too as long as he tries to play like he is Odom or Walker.

Now Deng to me made zero sense this summer. IT made sense when they were trying to bull **** people with paying Lin 17mil, having Boozer, and paying Jordan Hill. It made sense when you had Kobe still over paying Hibbert 17mil. Deng was a move you make 1-2 years ago alongside guys like Thomas, Lowry when they wanted to and were interested in coming here but we were ignoring them. Deng is a PF now. HE was a PF his last season in Miami as that is where he took off. Hell I will admit hes probably better starting over Randle next to Mozgov as the stretch 4. Deng, Thomas, Kobe, Boozer, and a decent big would compete versus two years ago, but it made no sense to think you could start Deng at SF out west when he was struggling there in Miami

One of the things I like about these boards is the diversity. You got the Russell crew, the Randle crew. Guys who think both stink, the pro Jim/Mitch. The anti. The in-between. The 'team tank'....peeps are all over the map. One post your agreeing with so and so....and 20 minutes later your lobbing grenades at them about a different topic. It's good stuff.

On this one, you and I are opposites. I thought Deng's contract was HORRIBLE, but I thought he'd bring some value to the team. My logic, was that at least Deng was a really good player at one point. I never understood the Mozgov "fit". He plays decent D. He wasn't as slow and cumbersome as I thought he'd be....but yeah. It just never made sense to me. And his contract was bonkers too.

I know the cap went up.....but it went up like 20%. So $18 mil is still like $14-$15.....And $16 is still $13-$14. Way way too much.

The only thing I can think of, is that they were the only semi-big names that even returned calls. The clock/desperation was setting in, and perhaps they just kinda saw what they wanted to see? There's been alot of reports of how they kept things close to their vests. Perhaps they needed to get that outside voice to come in, and talk sense. Closed circle of "yes men" syndrome?

Whatever the case...let's hope this new management can swing something that doesn't cost us too much, and put them in our rear-view mirror.

The reason why we signed Mozgov because Zubac was not ready to be in the rotation yet, and the reason why Deng was signed it was because Ingram was not ready to start yet. The only mistake we made was giving them 4 years instead of 2 years.

Is there a trade out there for Mozgov or is he going to get stretched? That is the question.
