Every player praising Luke and crediting him for being a positive influence on them.

What else are they suppose to say

Not trying to be a jerk. But it would be career suicide to speak out against the coach

I keep going back to Magic and Jeanie keeping Luke out of the loop regarding firing Mitch and Jim... There was a time after the shift where it wasn't clear to me that Luke was viewed as "Their Guy" or not...

They've said the right things since, but it still seems like mentioning Luke is sort of an afterthought... We all know how much Magic liked Scott, for example...

So maybe another way to take the players praise, is a vote of support for their coach?

Would hope keeping Luke around would be a rock solid foregone conclusion... But it's so hard to tell what the plan is now, who knows.

Everything I've ever read or heard has Jeannie, Magic, and Pelinka endorsing Walton.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Jeannie has name dropped Luke in every single interview so far. He's by far the most liked part of the franchise by everyone.

They could say the same things they did about Byron.

No question... But he also wasn't she or Magic's choice for Coach. And he's also the only one left to blame other than themselves.

There's a big difference between name dropping because he's "Your Guy" and name dropping because you recognize he's clearly the most popular Laker in a Suit right now. But it can be difficult to tell the difference...

For me, what Jeannie, Magic, and Pelinka have said so far about Luke hasn't had a whole lot of substance. I haven't heard any real endorsements of the job he's done so far. "He's got Charisma," "He's easy to work with," "He's in the meetings," "I would never interfere with his coaching."

Like you said, due to his popularity, I think Luke's basically bulletproof right now, but that doesn't mean he's fully supported or the players wouldn't feel the need to go out of their way a little to back him.

Ok, granted but that's a little convenient, no?... It's kind of strange she waited that long to share the whole 'Magic said he wanted to build around Luke' thing... I mean if it was me, that would have been the very first thing I said about the Magic hiring... That would have made the transition a lot more palatable for fans...
She had plenty of opportunities to say that earlier, but instead just said basically that Luke's likeable. (Did a search from the date Mitch was fired until the day she said that, and didn't see any quotes about Luke, other than the one about his charisma and how Phil liked him)
It's like she and Magic woke up to the fact Luke's pretty much beloved by Laker fans and decided it was the right time to bring out a story about how he was the deciding factor in hiring Magic...

But like I said, Luke SHOULD be untouchable... However that happens is fine with me. And I'm GLAD his players are chiming in.

I hope he is here for the next 10-15 years even though that's a pretty unrealistic tenure for an NBA coach.

You're missing the mark on this one. The last thing Magic and Jeannie and Pelinka are doing is contemplating a new coach -- that's, at minimum, two years away.

These are professionals.

You're implying that Jeannie, Magic and Pelinka are "bitch-made", but the bitch (in the baseball chap) was ran outta here ... kicking and screaming.

Not the point... Point I was making was that maybe the players hadn't heard the level of support for Luke from the FO they needed, and felt the need to endorse him in the exit interviews...

I think their public support of Luke is more about them knowing that Luke has so much support from the front office that anyone planning to stick around has to demonstrate that they are on the same page with Luke to even be considered for a contract.

Or, maybe their just being honest and frank.

I thought I was the armchair psychologist on this board.

I think their public support of Luke is more about how they had Byron Scott, and compared to Scott, Luke Walton is the best coach of all time.

Luke is Jeannie's choice as coach. I 100% believe, if he wasn't hired last year, he would've been brought in with Magic and Pelinka. There was a reason she was so shocked last year when Jim/Mitch replaced Scott with Luke. Pelinka stated at his intro, Luke is a championship caliber coach, and its his job to put the talent around them.

Dear Lakers, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let Young walk.

Cool. Mostly took away that Walton is a player's coach and Young is gone. He is gone, yes, oh happy days, yes, he is gone...I hope.

Mozgov:
"I don't think Zu is ready to be starting. It's different starting some games and coming into the season being a starter"

- Zubac wants the starting center spot next season, but does not expect it to simply be handed to him. In regard to Timofey Mozgov, he said, “Whoever can help the team win is going to be the guy who’s going to start.”
