Losing The Pick ... What Next?

Post#1 » by ALL HAIL » Fri May 5, 2017 6:57 pm

I'm curious to hear people's Plan B.

Does the losing the pick effect your offer for George?

What does your lineup look like next year without the pick?

Is it the sign of an apocalypse?

Not at all. We have almost too much youth on this squad, and have been very, very lucky to land both Russell and Ingram. Stay the course, hope everyone takes a step up, and try to remove one of the bad contracts.

I have four kids, Ty. I don't know a damn thing about "Plan B".

1. I'd try to get rid of Jordan Clarkson for cap relief, or a two way role player.
2. Ingram, and Russell become untradeable.
3. Sign Ian Clark, Justin Holiday, and Reggie Bullock. All low-cost shooters that can defend.
4. Try to trade Randle for good assets.
5. Hope to sign Paul George next offseason or trade at most Randle + Clarkson + Houston Pick.

Lineup without Randle, and Clarkson:
Pg: Russell, Tyler Ennis
Sg: Ian Clark, Justin Holiday
Sf: Ingram, Reggie Bullock
Pf: Deng, Nance Jr.
C: Mozgov, Zubac, Black

Win as many games as possible.

1. Use Randle to get rid of Deng/Mozgov
2. Trade Clarkson for cap relief and a 1st round pick
3. Tank properly this time

That's a realistic, savvy, outstanding offseason. In particular...

I'd be ecstatic with that lineup.

Id think about moving the hou pick or Clarkson for 2018 pick or 2019 pick so that it opens up the abilities t to trade your own 2018 pick

I think the new leaders are going to go for a star no matter what. Whether they can do that without the pick and keep a decent amount of the core intact will remain to be seen. I'm not seeing them as being patient for another 3 or 4 years while these guys make it or not.

The max offer for George would still be Randle, Clarkson, and #28. Or Ingram, Deng, 28 for George, Jefferson.

Try to trade off Mozgov and Deng for cap relief. If successful trading off one, try to sign a FA like Clark. Other than that, only 1 year contracts to shooters. If they can't shoot, don't want them on the team.

And I still think that is too much... I personally don't offer more than Clarkson + Black + 28 for George. Save Randle as another bullet to get a target. Ingram ain't going nowhere. More untradeable than Russell or the top 3 pick.

Wait for 2018 summer and acquire pg13 in free agency. We will have a top 3 pick again assuming phoenix, Orlando and 76ers will be better than us.

Honestly, don't think anything really changes. They're probably still shopping the hell out of Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng, although I think they'd be less willing to include any of their young core (Russell and Ingram).

Yeah, nothing really changes. Just if we bring back a similar team, the focus has to go towards the young players. More Zubac over Mozgov, Nance/Randle over Moz, etc.

Regardless of whether we keep the pick or not:

A) Strip salary: Have to find a way to get rid of Mozgov and/or Deng.

B) Find shooting

C) Get value for Clarkson, whether it's a player who's a better fit or salary cap relief and a pick.

I posted a "3 Point Shooters" list in the FA thread. We have to nab at least two of these players. Losing the pick would just make us focus more on the back court.

Expensive Options:

1) Danny Green: My thoughts on him are well known. I'd trade Clarkson and 28 for him. He'd fit with this team significantly better. With Parker's injury and aging back court, Clarkson would be great in a Ginobili role coming off the bench.

2) Danilo Gallinari: Would only be available to go after him if we could dish off Mozgov and/or Deng. What type of contract would he command? Would 4 years/50M do the trick?

3) Pau Gasol: If we strike out on the max free agents, would a 1 year, 15M deal be enough to bring in Pau to finish his career here? Shot 54% from 3 this year (56/104)

4) Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: Hit 153 3's last year in 76 games. Again, questions come down to money. Where are we with Clarkson/Mozgov/Deng? Did I mention those Deng and Mozgov contracts were awful?

5) Tim Hardaway: Would love him, expectations are he signs a Deng type deal. Don't know if we can afford that considering we'll probably be hoarding our space for next season.

6) Patty Mills: He'd be near the top of this list if it wasn't for his expected contract demands. Again, would require a Deng type deal or something close to it. Entering his age 29 season, do we really invest that much? I'd rather go with someone like Hardaway or KCP if we have the ability to add a large contract.

7) Darren Collison: Unrestricted free agent. Hit over 40% from 3 on a significant number of makes and attempts.

8) CJ Miles: Has a player option for around 5M, which means he'll be a free agent. Hit 169 3's on a 41% clip. Good defender.

9) James Johnson: Will be 30 years old next season, how much money do you want to spend on a player like him?

10) Joe Ingles: He'd be higher on the list, but, not a great defender, not athletic, is a RFA, and will command a huge deal so Utah doesn't accept. I'd pass.

11) JaMychal Green: Hit 38 percent from 3 and is a great defender. Would fit perfectly. However, Memphis wants him back and he's an RFA. Would take a big deal to get them to not match it.

Cheaper Options:

Tony Snell: Played well in the playoffs, however, he's a RFA. Would probably take MLE type money (6-8M).

Patrick Patterson: Can knock down 3's well for a 4/5 man. Raptors will probably need to let him go.

Thabo Sefolosha: Would provide a solid backup G, who can shoot and still hound people on D.

Ben McLemore: RFA. Not sure Sacramento would be willing to keep him if he was offered a solid deal. Entering his age 24 season. I look back to 2 seasons ago, when he played in all 82 games and averaged 30 MPG, he scored over 12 PPG and hit 140 3's.

Jodie Meeks: Has a past here, and we just didn't keep him because of the contract he was offered. A room exception of around 4M? Works for me.

Anthony Morrow: Didn't hit well last season from 3, but we know he's capable. Another room exception candidate.

Reggie Bullock: Solid wing defender, has the ability to knock down shots.

It's going to be a nail biter. If we were in the 2 spot then 2 teams would have to jump up for us to lose the pick. As it stands if ANY team jumps ahead of us we lose the pick.

I hate that the headline says Magic says we keep pick. He said it joking, however the league may be upset by it and we may get pushed out.

So your saying that the lottery is fixed. It may, or may not, have been fixed in favor of the Lakers prior to Magic's "joke" but now you worry it is rigged against LAL because of said joke.

If the lottery is fixed then it's professional wrestling. Why watch if you think any part of the game is fixed? If it is then it's all kabuki.
