Would you trade rosters with Utah?

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Tue May 9, 2017 5:48 am

A thread on the GB on what it would take for the Jazz to beat the warriors got me thinking that they don't really have a roster set up for continued improvement off their 2nd round appearance.

They relied heavily on players that are over 30 or will be by next season (Joe Johnson, Díaw, Hill, Inglés). More concerning, George Hill is a free agent as well as their best player, Gordon Hayward.

They do have one of the best young centers locked up in Gorbert, but the age and contract status of the rest of their core seems to be filled with question marks on the potential of building on the current core.

Thoughts?

I would not.

I wouldn't have done the Celtics in the Celtics thread and they are more appetizing than Jazz imo. I think its 50/50 they keep Hayward, and I am not in the arena of thinking he's a max player to begin with. Never liked George Hill and overpaying him also doesn't appeal to me. That said, keeping those 2 looks like the best option for them which just reinforces my "no".

I'd rather roll the dice on Ingram/Zubac/Russell/Randle/Clarkson/47% and pray they hit somewhere close to the ceiling I believe they have than take the known of the Jazz, which to me is nothing higher than a 4 seed, non-WCF team.

If Hayward opts in, yes in a hot second. They'd only need to renounce Diaw and find a taker for Exum to open up max cap space. That team with CP3 and some ring chasing vets in an LA market is a recipe for contention.

Gobert is a nice piece, but going forward I'd prefer the Lakers roster.

Nope. I'd rather gamble on our youngsters. IN a couple of years we are better than Utah.

No... Trading rosters would suck. No originality or creativity.

If we have any success, I want it to be our own. So these roster swap threads are always going to get a "no" from me at least.

The only player that really excites me in the league that's not a Laker is Anthony Davis... And I wouldn't swap rosters with them either. But I'd think about it for a while... 8-)

Gobert, Hayward, and healthy Favors are better than anything we have but their whole team gets injured every year. Also the rest of their team is eh.

In a NY minute. They play defense and they have some very underrated players. We have potential and some of it is overrated.

I would definitely make the trade. a rim protector like Gobert is key to winning ships and hard to come by

They've done a phenomenal job building a foundation with a really underrated front office. Now, they need to keep that foundation. If Hayward stays, it's the Jazz roster combined with Gobert and a few other really smart pieces on good contracts.

I like the Lakers talent more but I voted on that with Hayward and George Hill currently free agents. If both re-sign, Utah. As it stands now? Lakers talent.

Jazz to be honest.

Assuming they keep Hayward they have a fantastic core going forward and are deep. Doesn't hurt that they have Gobert.

I love love love Rudy Gobert. He's the type of player that can change a game with his defense alone. He's the type of we should be targeting with our late draft picks. Utah's roster in LA's market would be a huge free agent destination.

We'd probably be stupid not too. Gobert has a massive impact, and Gordon is emerging as a legitimate star.

I love our guys though, so I would probably keep them hoping they pan out. I would hate to see our guys turn into stars elsewhere.

I don't even like Clarkson, but we would lose that trade. Exum sucks.

Gobert is 15th in BPM, 8th in VORP, 8th in RPM. He's not even in his prime.

LA's problem is that we don't have anyone that looks like a superstar. I think Ingram is going to be awesome and do everything well eventually, but he's better served as the second best player on a championship team. He'll never be a 25-30 PPG guy. Splitting hairs though.

Gobert is already an All-Star caliber player. He's the best shot-blocker in the league. He's the most impactful defender (as a center) in the league. He's one of the best rebounders in the league. He's one of the most efficient scorers in the league. People don't realize how valuable guys like him and DeAndre truly are. Gobert is well on his way to being a superstar player, but he'll go under the radar for his entire career. He could get a max and be underpaid.

We need guys that return value like that. You get 1-2 elite players and surround them with good contracts? That's how you get a championship team. Starting next season, we won't have any choice but to sell off guys like Randle. We can't afford to extend all of this young talent. You think Utah is sweating their situation? No way. They've got a centerpiece that'll never be overpaid, and a guy that's easy to build around.

You're homering if you don't think Utah is in a better situation than we are. I love what LA is doing, but I'd rather be Utah or Denver and there's not a question about it. I love Ingram, but their best piece is better than ours.
