http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1450821#start_hereThere was last years thread. A few predicted the Mozgov signing. Didn't see any predictions for Deng!

If only one of us was in charge last off-season..
My prediction in the last couple days has changed tremendously. The pick, Paul George's status, etc. I assumed they'd be aggressive right off the start. My thoughts have changed the last couple days in regards to that.
PG: Lonzo Ball/ Shaun Livingston/
SG: D'Angelo Russell/ Jordan Clarkson/ David Nwaba
SF: Brandon Ingram/ Thabo Sefolosha/ Corey Brewer/
PF: Julius Randle/ Larry Nance Jr/ Luol Deng/
C: Amir Johnson/ Tarik Black/
And these are my thoughts, thinking as the front office. Not my wishes, but thinking as the front office.

Um, did Ivica Zubac die? I thought it was just a sprained ankle . . .

My prediction is they're off the roster. Zubac, #28, Mozgov to Brooklyn for a future pick of some sort.

That sounds like the sort of stupid trade Brooklyn would make if they had
our roster. We're not dumping two young assets for a future pick and cap space.

My hope:
PG: Russell | Ennis | VET PG
SG: Jackson | Young | Nwaba
SF: Ingram | Deng | Brewer
PF: Randle | Nance JR. | Robinson
Cc: Lopez | Zubac | Black
Basically: Mozgov + 28 + Clarkson for Lopez (2018 expiring) or something similar
With a vet PG sprinkled in there

What it will be:
PG: Ball | Clarkson | Pick # 28
SG: Russell | Young | Nwaba
SF: Ingram | Deng | Brewer
PF: Randle | Nance JR. | Robinson
Cc: Mozgov | Zubac | Black
I don't think we do much this offseason, unless it's to dump Deng / Mozgov someway cheapish-ly.
This hopeful & prediction are based on the start of the season.
I do see us making deadline deals....
Next offseason is were we strike. Book it.

Ivica Zubac/Timofey Mozgov/Tarik Black
G-League two way roster spots: Frank Mason (Undrafted), Nigel Hayes (Undrafted)

Quite a few people said Mozgov. I didn't even know Mozgov was a free agent and I'm a die hard FO guy lol.

Rest assured, that outside of trading Russell, #2, Ingram, and probably Randle, Magic and Pelinka will do everything they can to try to get rid of Mozgov and Deng's salary. Mozgov is the more likely to move. There's no way that we rely solely on internal improvement to bring Paul George in as a free agent next summer. Magic hinted out they hoped to have two max spots available in 2018 -- the only way to that is by dishing one of Moz/Deng and stretching the other. If they do that and don't accumulate salary going into next off-season, we'll have 2 max spots + Randle's cap hold. Exactly where Magic and Pelinka want to be.

The trade for Brook Lopez is solid. I don't see how they get better assets. I think Zubac or Nance would have to be added in, however.
Jackson: I like Jackson, but if you have him in a lineup with Ingram and Randle, I dread what that team can do offensively. Now, having a big that can space the floor like Lopez helps that for sure. However, I just don't see how Jackson and Ingram are going to co-exist offensively. Neither is a good shooter. The hope is that they both grow into good shooters, but god would that be awful to watch early on, especially when you factor in Randle as well.

SF: Paul George/ Brandon Ingram/Luol Deng

Yeah, why wouldn't we trade away the only chance we have of fielding a true center any time soon? Sure sounds like the contending team PG would want to be on in his prime!
What you're proposing is a bad deal. Even more problematic, our bait is a future pick. We don't need a future pick. At all. We need an elite player and you're fumbling away assets in your proposed deal that we could be using to trade for one. Clarkson is the piece to dump, he's not even on a rookie deal anymore.

This is probably the closest thing i have. I still expect Mozgov to start unfortunately.

The Lakers don't care about the future pick, my friend. They care only about getting rid of Mozgov's salary. Lakers have to create some cap flexibility and unfortunately, due to Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak, there has to be a casualty -- and if it's Zubac, so be it. The C position is so much less valuable in today's NBA. Larry Nance, Tarik Black and a free agent like Amir Johnson on a year contract could easily fill that void.
People don't talk about this, but statistically and analytically, Tarik Black was the best defensive C in the entire league in the second half of last season and 6th best in the first half. You get a guy like that on a one year contract for 6 million a season? Absolutely. That's not even a MLE number.
Read Sam Amick's article today. The Lakers have been tipped that Paul George is interested in coming, that much is clear. However, in order to get him, they have to clear salary cap space. We don't have the salary cap space to squeeze him in. And Magic talked about having TWO MAX SPOTS available on the radio the other day. In order to get that, they're going to have to get creative when it comes to Luol Deng and Mozgov.

How much are some of you guys planning to give Livingston? Gotta be a ton to get him to give up being on a contender to come be a back up on a team so early in the rebuild

You're going to need to cite numbers.
