I guess it would not hurt, I would not mind Kareem helping out our bigs and helping them develop. Kobe has a bright mind so I am sure it would not hurt.

Magic is so good at the PR game lol. Soon as Paul George announces he's going to workout with Kobe, Magic announces he's trying to bring Kobe into the fold.

Honestly don't think Kobe gives two **** about the Lakers at this point... Agree with Dock.

Can't hurt. Solid PR move. The youth of today look upon Kobe as inspiration. (See Isaiah T). If he attracts talent, so be it.

Going to be one of those Steve Nash-Warriors consultant type roles. Other than being in the stands every now and then does he actually do anything other than have conversations with players every now and then?

Re: Magic: Kobe wants to be more involved with Lakers
I can see him working tape with them like he did with Thomas, I just can't see him doing it on anyone else's schedule... I don't see him helping in any meaningful way in the gym either.
Challenging everyone to 1:1 doesn't help much...
That's what I think is the realistic scenario... That said, I would LOVE to see Kobe on the bench getting in guys ears during games and teaching them what it means to be a winner in the NBA. I would LOVE him to be the bad cop to Walton's good cop.
Once these kids decide they actually want to be great, they need a psycho like Kobe to show them what that means. Kobe was hungry for 20 freaking seasons... Not sure how you teach that, but it would be spectacular if they could get him to try.

Magic brings Kobe back into Lakers organization
I wonder what will happen over the summer of 2018...

I'm a fan of Kobe but bringing Kobe means the end of the rebuilt.
I'm not sure about that.
I'm not sure about that.
Lets go Lakers!!

Re: Magic: Kobe wants to be more involved with Lakers
I'd use Kobe as a special teams coach...working with guys on his talent level like Ingram, George, etc. Have him design his own program for them to help them improve on their individual game.
But Kobe would need to understand these guys are not him. They have limitations. Brandon might be like him but most are not. But if Kobe can help Ingram then it is worth getting him on board.
We need Kobe more involved and on the payroll.

I've always said from the moment he stepped off the court that he needs to be brought back in some kind of player development role, he's openly spoke about 1 on 1 with guys to improve their game maybe that's kobe's way for saying come get me...

For someone who has been following the Lakers for so long, you all of people should know that Kobe is quite the behind the scenes guy. Guarantee he's doing way more than "having a conversation with a player every now and then."
I doubt he ever takes a true role in the front office because he has such a good rapport with many of the league's top players that its Magic's way around tampering.

Hey as long as the Lakers don't have a "Kobe returns to the Lakers as a special player inspiration/consultant" season long welcoming tour I'm down with it

Isn't it better for Kobe to not be affiliated with the Lakers? That way he can be the go between the two parties.

Re: Magic: Kobe wants to be more involved with Lakers
Players love to be around their childhood idols, it can't hurt and sometimes it makes the difference.
For example, Real Madrid is benefiting immensely from Zinedine Zidane's presence after his retirement, first as an advisor and recruitment figure as he was able to bring Varane and Benzema, then as a second trainer and right now as a head coach. Kids respect legends they grew up watching, actually hear what they have to say and follow their advice.
Of course not every legend fits the mold, but Kobe's feel for the game, passion and work ethic are too valuable to pass up. Bring him on progressively.

Yeah I would be inspired by the guy that led the biggest baby meltdown in a World Cup

Re: Magic: Kobe wants to be more involved with Lakers
This is more like Magic wants Kobe to want to be more involved with the Lakers.
But I'll say this, Kobe could really help the Lakers' entire training program. The only truly elite thing about Kobe was his work ethic and attention to details of the game. Obviously you need to supplement it with top notch physical trainers and sports medicine specialists, but he was remarkably durable for most of his career until the Achilles injury.
Second, the fundamentals. One of the most fundamentally sound players in the game. Footwork and overall skillset were amazing, for any player at any position. Coaches and trainers can give you some core fundamentals, but it's both mind blowing as well as painfully mundane - all the little things that great players see in the game.
Also his dedication to game film - Isaiah Thomas revealed that he goes over game film with Kobe, but Kobe is obviously seeing some different things than coaches.
And without a doubt, he'd help the culture of a very young post-millennial team by bringing in his professionalism, work ethic, focus, competitiveness (just as competitive in practice as he was in games), as well as creative, out-of-the-box thinking.
But yes, as probably the greatest basketball nerd who ever lived, Kobe would be great for them. He wouldn't have the patience to do any day-to-day stuff, but I'd have him help build and direct the infrastructure, because I can't think of anybody else who went through the entire process from the ground up, who never cut corners, who has the intellect to explore, process, and translate his experiences into performance. And is articulate enough to communicate these lessons...
He's transitioning into teacher and storyteller, so I actually see Kobe eventually proselytizing his vision and understanding of basketball once he gains the full toolset to do so.
