Welcome to the Lakers Brook Lopez!

Post#1 » by hermes » Wed Jun 21, 2017 3:12 am

i know a lot of people are going to see you as a giant contract that will come off the books at the end of the year, but i see a really solid player who languished for a while in brooklyn and is looking for a fresh start (maybe to further reinvent himself - he shoots 3s now!!!)

here you can peruse his stats (don't mind those rebounding numbers, that's what randle and zubac are for)

i'm sure you've heard he's a twin

happy to have you on board brook, i look forward to cheering for you as you help the team move into its next chapter

let's give him a chance, please

Lopez is a one way center. His one way, when healthy, is pretty good. He can play both facing and back to the basket and has decent vision as a passer. He's a 3rd wheel on a contender however. He's not leading anyone anywhere.

Easily the best big we have had since Pau. Not even close. As strange as it sounds he is a huge upgrade at C for us since Pau. Not going to have the affect a young Pau had when we got him in the Kwame affect. But his skill set will be extremely helpful.

Best part about Brooke......his voice

Lopez has played 70+ games each year in the past 3 or so years. i'm glad to finally have an established player on board.

Lopez is a career 19 ppg on 50% shooting who can't hit the broad side of a barn once he gets further than 12 feet away from the basket, averages 6 rpg, less than two blocks pg and .5 steals pg.. and all that was rounding up add it'll only cost 7 mill per year more than Mosgov!

I don't think there's anything to feel good about if the Lakers really think he's a solution of some kind, his play is literally the complete opposite of the way Walton wants these guys to play...lol

Walton wasn't Magic's pick so I wouldn't think he's got a large say at this point. George, Lopez and LeBron isn't a group that would play anything like Golden State which seems to be what Walton is trying to emulate so my guess is that if we get a team of solid veteran stars in there we get a veteran star coach as well.

These developments show that Magic didn't come onboard to continue down the path started by Jim/Mitch. He is here to change direction so I'd think anything in on the table right now... including the coach.

Magic has gone on record saying Walton was the perfect guy for the Lakers, even said he'd build around him as the coach.

As a Nets fan, I'm sad to see him go, I think he's among the league's most underrated players. He has his flaws as a player (slow footed so he struggles in P&R defense/switches, and not an aggressive defensive rebounder) but he's a very skilled scoring big who does it efficiently and he's a very underrated rim protector. In addition to that, he's a great guy and a likeable personality.

To the poster above who said that he can't do anything outside of 12 feet away from basket, are you sure you're talking about the right player? Brook last season suddenly developed into a 3pt threat and shot almost 35% from 3pt on 5 attempts per game. He has improved his scoring game each year. I think his inclusion in the trade has been the most overlooked part of the trade, just because he only has a year left on his deal. But he's by far the best player in the trade atm.

I hope you guys appreciate him more than some of the posters over on the Nets board.

Stop with the Lebron coming to LA nonsense... Lebron is not coming to the Lakers, even with George and a great improvement from the kids they'd be steamrolled by the Warriors.. If Lebron moves (which I doubt he will) he's going to a true title contender with a proven track record.

and if Walton doesn't have a say? then they need to fire him.. get somebody in they trust

on Lopez 1.8 made 3 pointers per game is not a threat... it's an invitation from the defense to get you away from the paint

Nets fan coming in peace... i think you guys overpaid but when someone like George is available you do what it takes to secure him.

here is what you are getting with brook:

-enough 28/12 nights to keep you optomistic he can be a legit player
-tons of 16/5 nights in between where you dont get why he didnt dominate vs horrible smaller players
-the worst pick and roll defense you ever seen. so bad your coaches will eventually have your PG trail every screen and sit lopez in the restricted area... this will lead to TONS of opponents wide open threes. but prevents dunks.
-monster first quarters followed by invisible 2nd/3rd/4th quarters

lopez is a GREAT guy. and outside of low post play he can do it all on offense. but he will frustrate you with a lack of competitive edge and consistent all-star level play and force you to play vanilla on defense.

Boy you are in for a surprise with D'Angelo. Brook sounds like a 7'0 Russell. Good luck.
