So who gets the credit?

The front office that unintentionally put the team in the position to pick second overall or the front office that didn't have to do anything but were the ones to make the actual pick.

The NBA. Bringing in Magic to mentor him was a genius move.

Mitch and Jim are definitely more responsible. All Magic and Pelinka had to do was make the pick and not mess it up.

Having said that, i like to think of it as Lonzo being the one that deserves the most credit. It is after all, his talent and play that put him in a position to be drafted by us.

1)Magic and Luke
Trading away Lou allowed us to lose some close games, and sitting players strategically in the second half of the season did the same

2)Lady luck-with the ping pong balls

3)Lavar and Lonzo - Some credit is deserved here. The decision not to work out for the C's (for anybody other than the Lakers for that matter) had an impact on this draft. If he had worked out for them and impressed them, they may not have traded away the number one pick and actually picked Lonzo

we won five straight games at the end of the year. Trading away Lou had very little to do with it.

Lavar Ball, for speaking it into existence.

We would have won a few more with Lou.
And we won 5 straight at the end because the other teams were tanking harder than we were.

Lou was traded specifically for the purpose of tanking (and to get another first round pick)
That had a lot to with us getting into the lottery.

maybe, maybe not. Regardless Jim and Mitch were heavily involved in trade talks concerning Louis Williams and had the offers set up. Hard to give Magic credit for that trade when Jim and Mitch were the ones that did all the leg work to begin with.

I didn't know Mitch and Jim did the leg work on that trade.
I don't remember reading that or hearing it anywhere.
If that's the case, they should get credit for doing the leg work.
And Magic for actually pulling the trigger.

It was very well documented everywhere. Remember that they got fired just a couple of days before the trade deadline.

Mitch and Jim would have doubled down on Russell, likely never drafting Ball to begin with.

Totally agreed. Nets trade was a heist, kudos to Magic/Pelinka/Luke for making the big moves. I knew Luke would not gel with D-Lo the moment he signed. The guy is a winner, and imagine he's probably the happiest to see Russell go, even more so than Magic

Ultimately Magic made the decision to get him. But Magic almost made the mistake by trading him for Kings picks. He almost pulled an Ainge.

common sense i would think. Not taking the BPA, who also is the best fit would have been the dumbest thing we could do.

Adam Silver, who was the responsible for rigging the NBA Lottery's ping-pong balls.

Fairly hard to credit any of them. Jim and Mitch certainly thought they had a winner this year. Being the second worst team in the NBA wasn't by design. It was by incompetence. Yes, they did the Leg-work on the Williams deal...but then froze up when the trigger needed to be pulled. Just like with Boogie. Only with Williams, Magic 'grabbed the rifle' and made sure the deal went through. That absolutely asinine 5-game win-streak at the end (or 5 of 7..whatever) makes it very hard to credit Luke or Magic or Rob either.

At the end of the day....he was signed under Magic/Rob. They will get blamed if he flames out. They will get the credit if he goes on a tear. I am prob Jim/Mitch enemy #1 around here.....but I certainly wouldn't blame them if Ball turns into a total bust. Would anyone else honestly blame them for that? Prob would be Magic or no-one.

Same goes for the credit.
