Brook Lopez thread...when was the last time we had a all-star big?

Dude, we need to welcome this dude. When was the last time we had a All Star center on the team? Not since Bynum! This guy is a offensively gifted center. I will enjoy seeing a quality player like Lopez on the floor versus what we have seen in the past: guys like Robert Sacre, Jordan Hill, Dwight Howard...(i like tariq but he's limited offensively).

I also like how he can actually shoot a high percentage from the free throw line. Nice to have a center that won't be a liability down the stretch.

I think he can improve our record, make the game easy for the young guys by spreading the floor a bit...and even do some inside / out action. Give small ball teams some issues, provide vet leadership, and even take zubac under his wing. If he plays well and we make the playoffs I don't see why we can't give him a fair contract. Brook Lopez may turn out to be a underrated acquisition imo.

I'm thrilled to have him but we still don't have an all-star big.

I agree with you. He seems like a welcomed addition to this team and is most likely our best player right now. I giggled when you said playoffs tho

He's an expiring deal with a huge cap hold at a time that the front office has called 2018 cap space sacred. Hard to get excited over someone who is clearly on his way out the moment he was traded for. Only way he stays is if the team fails miserably in attracting top free agents so again hard to get excited about his long term outlook on this team.

Another soft big man who can't get a rebound to save his life...Not so excited about him, it will be fun seeing him shooting 3s like there's no tomorrow, though.

Maybe Larry must dunk on him each time in practice to wake him up...

Nice thing about Lopez.....a veteran that can play. He is also 'hungry' as the Nets never really won.....I would imagine that at this stage of his career......he will love to taste how it is to win. Will the Lakers be able to provide him this ? Hoping !!

Pretty much this. I actually think highly of Lopez. I think it's impressive that he was able to completely reinvent himself and remain relevant without any adjustment period. The FO is making it blatantly obvious that they're only interested in the cap space created from the deal that brought him in though, and so there's no reason to develop any emotional attachment to him.

I'd rather give Zubac the minutes tbh. I can't see Zubac getting many minutes with Lopez out there and with Luke liking to go small.

He is a real offensive threat.
Huge upgrade at the 5.
P&R should be a big part of our offense with him.

I'm thrilled to have him.
I'm frankly even more thrilled that getting him allowed us to get rid of the Mozgov contract.

I hope we can get two max FAs after next year, and find a way to keep him too.

I don't think he'll get the minutes to get to that. I think he'll average about 24 MPG. 15-17 PPG.

Lopez is definitely a nice post scorer. Only thing concerning are his rebounding numbers- either way looking forward to seeing him on the floor this year.

Lopez is the perfect guy for Zubac to backup for. he's not going to average more than 30 minutes, thus, there will be plenty of playing time for Z.

Bynum and Pau, even Howard were All - Star bigs for the Lakers. However, the better question may be who was the last Laker All - Star big who was maximized by the club? Probably Shaq.

Even with reduced minutes, Lopez may get the ball more consistently playing under Walton and with Ball than any center since Shaq, although Pau was featured to a point.

It's hard to feed the post and incorporate the bigs with a high volume shooting guard and without a good transition offense. It was borderline criminal on some nights when Kobe would have as many or more shot attempts than one of the best front lines of all time combined with Bynum, Pau, and Odom.

Lopez should help facilitate the half court offense and popping from outside should help give Randle and Nance room to attack the rim. Looking forward to seeing the development of the team this year.
