1 Year Mega Mega

Post#1 » by BlackieMamba » Fri Jun 30, 2017 3:50 pm

If the lakers sign some mid-tier free agent to a multi-year deal worth anything over 6 million dollars, we should all storm Staples Center with torches and pitchforks!
However, that won't happen, I have faith in Rob and Magic.

There's been talks about the Lakers offering some of these mid-tier free agents the 1-Year Mega Mega.
I love this idea, imo it's the 2nd smartest way to capitalize on our cap-space. The 1st being replicable to the Jose Calderon deal last year. Taking on a hefty-expiring contract w/ assets attached to give other teams immediate flexibility. But anyways, I digress.

Who should we be targeting to overpay for 1 year?

After doing my post on my predictions for the rotation, it was evident we could use:

A. Lockdown Defender on the wing/backcourt.
B. Sharpshooter on the wing/backcourt.
C. Pass First Backup-PG
D. If none of the above then a Reclamation Project

We don't need any bigs whatsoever.
Here's my list of the people I think we should target.

1. Darren Collison
-Playmaking PG/Off-Ball Shooter
-Underrated Scorer/Playmaker
-Probably won't stay in SAC
-Fits the System
-LA Native

2. Aaron Afflalo
-Tough 3 & D SG
-Respectable enough to start over JC at the 2.
-Definition of a System Player
-Fits the System
-Inconsistent & His best days are behind him
-LA Native

3. CJ Miles
-Solid 3 & D Wing
-Probably leaving IND
-Can we promise enough minutes?
-Fits the system
-Relationship with Paul George?

4. Tyreke Evans
-Backup PG/Off-Ball Slasher
-Out of Shape
-Potential?
-Don't see why he'd stay in SAC
-Versatile
-Not the best fit for our System w/ his streaky jumper

5. Tony Snell
-Unestablished 3 & D Wing
-Only 25
-MIL will match unless we Mega Mega
-Fits the system
-How many Minutes?
-LA Native

Let's match Phillys 20 mil for 1 season of JJ.

Ball needs a 3 point target. JJ already lives in LA. Makes sense.

JJ may want to stay at a discount if we can get team banana boat / George in FA 2018. Be the Mike Miller of the team.

Srsly.. I saw this deal and cringed... This would have been a perfect deal for the Lakers -- given our current situation where we want to protect 2018 cap...

JJ would have been huge for us and would have been interesting to see him playing alongside Ball...

I don't see how Waiters accepts a one year deal, especially he reestablished a little bit of value at the end of the year.

Second year Team Option/non-guaranteed, maybe?

What's the max the FO can offer right now anyway?

Last time I did the numbers before Tariq being waived we were right around 22 million in cap space

As long as it's just for 1 year I don't care how much we overpay a player that can help our youngsters showcase their talents to attract free agents in 2018.

lakernation on facebook just posted about Rajon Rondo. If his willing to play small minutes either as starter or bench role < as long as it's limited he'd be good Mentor for Ball NO? For 1 year of course

Snell is off the market. But i wouldn't be against bringing in Evans, only issue is he's a bit too much like Lonzo.

We needed McLemore to put next to him in all honesty. We need a shooter plain and simple.

McLemore went to Memphis. I'm shocked there hasn't been any news (as far as I know) of teams interested in Collison, Evans and Afflalo.

With the lack of cap around the league and openings at the PG position I think Collison could be available for a Nene type of deal. 3-4 years around $10-12 mil. I'd be for that. Most likely even less for Evans and Afflalo.

George Hill on a year would be so perfect. That would be an unbelievable deal. Also for him, a year on the max, then he moves on and gets a big deal wouldn't be bad (look at Swaggy P, he's going to get a ton of money).
