Sources: If Caldwell-Pope's willing to do a one-year balloon deal, the Los Angeles Lakers have significant interest in pursuing him.
Also he liked this tweet linking him the the Lakers recently!

Would be perfect for what we need....not sure if he'll take a 1 year deal though....I can't see a scenario where someone like the Nets doesn't offer him more

He's almost definitely going to get a better/longer offer from somebody else. Not sure if there's enough incentive to bring him here.

We are just leverage boys... Once Washington matches Porter deal Nets will come with a multi-year offer... I know the plan but what a slow offseason...

He'd probably get a lot more shots playing with Lonzo as opposed to DLo.

I think Indiana is probably the biggest threat right now.

Maybe we tell him to sign a 1 year balloon deal and then we resign him to a long term deal once we get our two superstars.

P.S. I'll consider this a good offseason if we somehow get Caldwell-Pope. He's definately a potential starting SG.

Why would we want him? He's a mediocre shooter and marginal on D. Which are the 2 main things we need.

I agree with you on his shooting, but disagree with you on the D. He's an excellent defender. Most people who cover the Pistons and the NBA rave about his defense. More than his ability to defend, it was his willingness to defend. That's the type of culture the Lakers are trying to build. His shooting while still streaky did improve significantly. But on a 1 year deal, its worth giving him the big money to see how it pans out. That combined with the Lakers not having any real SG options on the roster, It makes no sense not to take a 1 year flyer on him if he's willing to take it. No one is saying giving him a 4 year max or something like that.

Admittedly, I don't get to see too much of him, but what I've seen is a hustle guy like Nance, who's willing to defend but only marginally successful at it.
I mean, I'll take willingness... No question. But he's being talked about in a price range that would seem silly for what he brings to the game.

KCP was actually developing nicely until Reggie Jackson happened. He's one of those guys that could flourish on a new team. If he's willing to sign a 1 year, it would be worth it to see if he gels with our roster. We haven't really got much to lose, and a lot to gain considering his age and potential. An up-tempo system might breathe new life into his career.

If the Lakers sign him though, wouldn't they have to renounce his rights to clear any cap holds before signing any Max Guys? That would put a damper on any "re-sign after signing FAs" talk. Or does the new CBA address this?

Like other's have said, KCP would be a very nice signing, to fill that SG spot. Give Nwaba, and Hart, some competition, as well as relieving the pressure those two would have to live up to. Also, keeps JC on the bench, in that valuable 6th man position, keeping our bench productive.

Teams that would compete for his service would be Brookyln, Utah, Indiana...off the top of my head. May be others. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The Lakers will not offer more than a one year deal, but the opportunity to put yourself center stage, and possibly position yourself for bigger future deals, as well as playing exciting ball with a young, upcoming team, for a storied franchise...in L.A...may be enough to snag him. Either way, it's all good. KCP would be nice to have, but no big if he goes elsewhere.

Yes

Didn't see this could happen, but the lakers should sign him to a 1 year deal and see how he is.

He has to on board, because several other teams will offer more money
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Something you might need to be mindful of in signing a youngish guy to a 1 year contract is they will be very conscious of their playing time and their numbers in hopes of getting a big long contract next offseason. If the Lakers end up giving more time to Nwaba and Hart as they progress, will that cause any friction.

I'm okay with the roster they have right now. I dont think the Lakers are 1 year balloon contract player away from the playoffs so I think giving minutes and developing the young kids should be the main priority. Perhaps something like if they sign someone who can be used as trade at the deadline for picks that could be parlayed into Deng dump, that would be nice.

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

thats very true. but techinically nwaba is in the same boat. 1 year left on his contract. also a month older than KCP. so theyll both be playing for contracts

looks like the anti clarkson. same age. better defender, worse at offense(maybe?). i'd be happy to give him a 2 year, team option deal if at all possible.

Well it was nice to think about it, but KCP will be a net in a matter of days.
