Our Best Lineup

Post#1 » by BlackieMamba » Fri Jul 14, 2017 12:08 pm

What do you guys think will be our best lineup next year? On a lot of teams the starting 5 isn't statistically the best 5 man lineup they can produce.
So what do you envision our best 5 man squad on the court will look like?

I think our best lineup will be...

Randle
Ingram
KCP
Clarkson
Ball

Not including Lopez is hard but this will be our death lineup. I'm excited for all the combinations of lineups we can assemble, especially with Nance being the unselfish big always looking to make the extra pass off the roll.

Based on last season's RPM and adding Lonzo:

Lopez
Nance Jr
Deng
Pope
Lonzo

Ofcourse you'll have to account for Ingram's possible improvement and place him over Deng who might regress.

Ball
Kcp
Ingram
Kuzma
Nance

All 5 guys can switch everything.

Kuzma/nance frontline isn't going to scare anyone defensively, but in transition this lineup would be terrorizing.

So far, I'd go with:

Lonzo
Caruso
Kuzma
Julius Randle
Larry Nance Jr

Has to be

Lonzo
Clarkson
Kuzma
Randle
Lopez

That's the only team that you can realistically run the break with, capitalizing on Ball's passing game. In the halfcourt you have two solid shooters in Kuzma and Lopez. In the backcourt, Ball and Clarkson are hit and miss, but you can live with that when you look at what the rest of the roster has to offer. Randle can get defensive boards and can be effective in the open-court, just don't give him the ball otherwise.

To me it's

Lonzo
KCP (defense against quick pgs)
Ingram
Kuzma
Brook

2nd Team
Caruso
Jordan (6th man)
Brewer (like his energy a lot)
Randle
Nance

3rd String
Ennis
Hart
Deng
Bogut
T Bryant /Zu (G league duties)

First order of business, we need to start Kuzma. While I get that it would be nice to bring his "fire power" off the bench. Fact of the matter is that we just don't have enough shooters in the starting lineup around Zo. The way our starters are right now, the best shooter we have is coming from our center. That's not going to cut it. We can't trust the shooting from KCP, Ingram, or Nance. Without Kuz in the starting line up, defenses will just pack the paint daring us to shoot. If we don't score in transition, our half court offense will be tough. We will have enough scoring from the 2nd unit from Clarkson and Randle if we have Caruso orchestrating the bench mob. It's becoming quite obvious that shooters are going to be a premium on this team. We will need to make sure we get enough of them around Zo.

With that said, we need to make an effort to run some of the offense through Brook in the half court. Luke's offense is so perimeter orientated with the motion sets, we will need to switch it up and get Brook some action in the paint. He's an advantage mismatch for us on most nights. I think down the stretch we should also run the O through him. Brandon's not ready to close out games. Unless we try Lonzo in that role but his game isn't really conducive to iso scoring. For us to have a shot at being decent this year we will need to start Kuz and make an effort to get Brook more touches in half court.

This is very close in my view. I would only swap Deng with Kuzma.

My lineup would be:
Lopez
Nance Jr
Kuzma
Pope
Lonzo
