2nd Two-Way Contract

Who do you guys think we should sign with our second two-way contract? Anyone on our roster deserve a spot? Anyone on another teams roster? Should we leave it open to see who thrives on the South Bay squad?
I'll admit I've only watched a few summer league games that aren't the Lakers. But I've watched the highlights from every game and have been following the stats pretty closely.
Anybody have any recommendations from other summer league teams?
Vander Blue gets buckets but that's about it
Matt Thomas is a knockdown shooter
Ding from the Mavs is a scrappy wing with good defense and looks like he might fit our system
I wish we could've seen more of Dozier

Travis wear would have been a good shout-out if not for the fact that we are loaded at pf.

Ding from the Mavs actually kind of sucks. He's really slow and can't finish, relying on the Gasol yells in the hopes of drawing fouls.

Matt Thomas hasn't shown what I'd hoped he woudl but I still think he's a good bet

I've been looking over the summer league stats and all of the guys who stand out are signed already. I haven't found anyone, maybe it's best we just see who does well for the South Bay Lakers and reward them with a contract.

I dont know if we need to issue another 2 way contract right now. Some of the candidates:
1. Vander Blue: High scoring SG that has learned to pass playing with Ball.
2. Matt Thomas: Had his best game with 20 points and going 6 for 7 from long distance.
3. Dozier: High hopes but now fading with the injury and no playing time.

No reason not to wait until training camp and see who looks good there. Check out what players other teams drop, etc.

he was a great prospect back then but was put in a wrong situation (playing behind durant )
I belueve he can be at least an ariza -level role player

I believe Perry Jones III doesn't qualify for the two-way contract... I could be wrong though.
You either can't have 3 years of experience or over 3 years of experience to qualify for this contract. Not sure which one.
He was with the Thunder from 2012-2015.

How about signing thomas bryant to that 2 way contract instead and give another player like perry jones III a normal contract ?
But may be quite unfair to thomas bryant to sacrifice for the money

Understand what the two ways are for. These are basically call options. Cheap bets to allow you to control a player for a couple years to see how they turn out. The vast majority of the players that get two ways will never meaningfully contribute to a NBA team.
They should be used on high risk, high reward type players. The youngest, highest potential players. Players growing or transitioning in some way or another.
These are not meant for players who who are expected to contribute to the parent team in the current year - the player can spend a max 45 days with the parent club.
These are not meant for veteran players...older players...low ceiling players. I think they can only be given to rookies or 2nd or 3rd year pros.
Think of this as a leash on a young prospect.

I know we're limited to 2 2-way contracts, but how exactly does this work? We still bring in 20 for training camp right? So can we sign 5 2 way contracts then cut 3 before the regular season?

The 2 two-way contract have no implications on the camp invitation. Its just an option for teams to sign 2 guys who are between NBA and G-League players. They get 45 days with the NBA team then have to decide on an NBA roster spot or back to G-League.

I really like how Matt Thomas developed from Iowa State until now. He went from 67% FT shooter to nearly a 90% shooter in college. MT also shot 43.2% and 44.5% from distance in college the last two years. MT said that he improved on his defense so that he could get playing time in Iowa State.
I think Magic likes MT since he got the summer invite plus a few encouraging words last night. He could the killer shooter that we have been looking for.
MT, Kuzma, Lopez will be the three headed long distance shooters that play alongside Ball.

I'll take Thomas, but man, it sucks because I like a lot of the players I saw on our SL squad.
