Deron Williams

Post#1 » by MadNESS » Tue Jul 25, 2017 3:22 am

Now that Rose is in Cleveland, I think this frees up Deron to move elsewhere......

Do you think he would be a solid mentor/back up for Lonzo?

Is this the kind of back up that Rob and Magic want?

I think he still has a little left in the tank - what do you guys think?

I wouldn't mind him if he comes here for cheap. Just need someone in Lonzo's ear during the game and during the trips to keep him cool headed. Also, Williams has a solid post up game and mid-range game that Lonzo can learn.

I like Deron more than Rose... It's unbelievable actually how far he has fallen.. at one point there was a legitimate argument between him and CP3 for best pgs in the league..

I know Deron Williams wants to live near Dallas/Texas area because of family or something. However, if there are no spots, I would love to have him in LA. He is a real vet with 12 years of experience. He provides good assists, leadership and has a good outside shot. He just turned 33.

Williams fall from grace has been a surprise for sure...

He was doing great up until the point he and Sloan started battling for control of the offense

Sloan wanted to be the one running the system, felt Deron was a great talent but he wasn't the playmaker Deron thought of himself as, that he was the result of the Jazz/Sloans' system. Deron wanted to do his own thing and thought he knew more than Sloan so he would ignore the plays being called... Both ended up leaving the Jazz and judging by Deron's career after his trade to the Nets looks like Sloan was correct

Not really the mindset you need around the kids

I would way rather have someone with more upside like Ian Clark. Especially in a year where we can finally "win" for the first time.

Can Williams still play? He was absolutely horrible in the finals. I would like a vet that can still play. I think Lonzo will miss some games this season due to him being 19 years old still growing into his body playing a 82 game season.

Easy pass on DWill. He has absolutely nothing to offer on or off the court.
Magic is the best mentor he can have as far as skills and priorities go.

As far as mentoring him on the court, the available free agents I'd consider adding are-
1. Jason Terry
-not only is a pg/sg himself, he played alongside Giannis and Dirk. Not only is he valuable to Lonzo, but Ingram too. He's nothing but a locker room presence at this point. Being one of the oldest players in the game, he'd be a great coach's extension on the court.

2. Ramon Sessions
-I liked him during his 1st stint with the Lakers. He seems like a class act, and has been in the NBA for 10 years now. Grounded dude.

3. Leandro Barbosa
-experience ranges everywhere...played with great pg's from nash to curry, whom Lonzo has traits of... good thing about him is that he can also produce on the court.

4. Sasha Vujacic
-the machine is an old fan favorite and former member of the bench mob. I'd gladly bring him back.

What about trades? Is there a veteran point guard out there on a one year deal or cheap deal? We could then use the room exception to fill the holes created by whomever we trade for the vet point guard. I also like Kendall Marshall. I like the fact that he is basically the same type of passer as Ball, so when Ball goes out of the game, it wouldn't be such a drop off. Caruso could also provide this effect.

I wouldn't take him even if it increased our cap space to take him on. He went 4 games in the finals scoring 0 pts, despite playing significant minutes. He's worthless and I dont want his lazy habits to spread to our young guys. PLEASE NO

I think Lakers will benefit signing a veteran PG. Deron will fit the bill.

Agreed. D-Will got rich, fat and complacent. The game has become secondary to him.

I'm surprised some of you want him. Lazy, unmotivated, diva and fat can all all describe D-Will to a T.

Definite pass. He isn't the overgrown special Ed's 9-year-old that Nick Young is but he's still not the guy you want Lonzo picking up habits from.

Hell no. The only reason for his decline, is because of his stupid attitude and work ethic. Keep that trash away.

Used to be a huge D-Will fan. Couldn't wrap my mind around how he went from great, to barf-bag so quickly. Injuries, and eventually attitude, I guess. I'm not totally sure. You'd think he woulda stepped up on Cleveland....with the chance he was given. But he had nothing to offer.

Sorry....but that well is dry. There's no reason for us to sign him. Sad

No real intest in him . With kumza and ball I don't see much spot for him unless he signs for min as bench player.
