Expectations for Ingram's scoring this season

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Sun Jul 30, 2017 9:02 pm

http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-news-magic-johnson-expects-brandon-ingram-to-lead-team-in-scoring/2017/07/22/

“I expect him to lead us in scoring, be out there and be the man. It’s his team,” Johnson said of Ingram. “It would be disappointing if he didn’t score up toward 20 points a game.

So Magic stated last week that he'd be disappointed if Ingram's scoring wasn't up towards a team leading 20 ppg.

For perspective, he put up 9.4ppg on 40.2 fg% in 28.8 mpg. He's also still super young, less than two months older than Lonzo Ball.

Would you consider next season a disappointment for Ingram if he didn't achieve 20ppg? If not, where would you draw the line, 12ppg/15ppg/18ppg...

I expect a jump to 15-17 PPG. Lopez gotta be #1 option, not averaging much more per game though. This team is gonna be well-balanced scoring-wise. I expect many players in double figures but nobody sniffing 20 per game.

playing with zo should increase his output good for 4-6ppg imo. I expect him getting to the line more and shoot a higher 3p%, so 18-21ppg wouldnt be such a reach with per 34 mins

Im hoping/expecting something like 15-17 as well. I probably would be disappointed if he didn't reach at least 14, anything over 17 and I would be ecstatic.

I expect Lopez to be the top scorer with over 20ppg. I hope to see BI near that level too as the two top scorers for the team. Ball leads the team in assists and highlight passes while KCP locks down the defense and Randle is the rebounding beast.

I'd be happy with a 15/7/3 kind of season, he is not a natural scorer but more of a swiss army knife. He needs to get good at a lot of things, most importantly the ability to draw fouls and knock down the 3 consistently before he can hit the 20 point mark.

I'll be disappointed if he doesn't score at least 12 which is the question...But I would be happy with 14-18. I just hope he doesn't focus too much on points b/c of what Magic has said. Just show improvement in all facets of the game, and I will defend Ingram against all the haters (if they come out from the shadows b/c of points).

what did he average post all star break?

I think he hit double figures in 15 out of the last 20 games, so hopefully he can carry that confidence over. If he can get to the line two more time per game (4 free throws) and Lonzo can get him 1-2 easy buckets a game, then 15-17ppg isn't out of the question.

Scoring isn't the issue per say with Ingram. Where he scores from and how is more important to me. He's not shown he can create separation and/or elevate over defenders yet. He's gotten points in transition and from the perimeter but going to the hoop he lacks a lot needed to finish consistently there.

Efficiency and being able to put pressure on the defense from the wing is a key for him. He could get 18ppg from the perimeter and not be a true "primary scorer" type. Hitting open or "created" shots is one thing. Being able to get the ball on the wing and read a defense and drive, pull up, shoot over, force a foul is where he needs to be IMHO. Wings have to be able to put pressure on the defense from everywhere. Right now he's got his issues with the strength/explosive parts of it. I hope we see him attack all the time this year and be less passive. That's progress I'll take even if it doesn't result in a higher ppg. scoring average.

He averaged 13.2 post ASB. I think 15 will be pretty easily doable, but I don't know that there are enough shots on the team for him to hit 20 ppg when you factor in Clarkson, Randle, Lopez, KCP, and Lonzo all getting theirs. If Magic were serious about setting Ingram up to go for 20 a night he would have built this team much differently. We'll see if any midseason moves happen though.

Ingram is going to have a pretty solid year this year for a second year player, but after the ASB he's going to destroy souls and eat people's young. This kid's combination of length and skill are ridiculous.

Lol wait is Magic on dope expecting Ingram to average 20 points? Lopez will be out leading scorer at 20 a game, then Caldwell Pope and the 3rd scorer will be either Randle or Ingram. Not to mention Clarkson is gonna jack up shots as well. Probably 12 to 15 is realistic unless we plan on being th highest scoring team in the league.

Gonna be tough for Ingram to average 20 with Randle in a contract year. Randle is going for his this year.

I picked 18 ppg. What I really want to see from Brandon is that his shots are going down with consistency. That's my main goal for BI.

I'd love to see him be more aggressive offensively.
He needs to knock down the open 3. With Lonzo running the point, everybody is going to get a lot of open looks. He needs to hit those consistently.
He also needs to slash to the basket and also run with Lonzo on the fast break.
I think he'll go up in scoring, to around 15 a game. His rebounding also needs to go up.

Hmmm...can Ingram get 5 points a quarter...should not be an issue with his skillset and length combine with playing with Lonzo. I imagine Ingram will get a lot more points in transition as well next season.

I think a lot of you guys are hitting on some great points here. I'm saying 15ppg. If after asb he avg 13.2 than I think 15 is a good reachable goal.

I real want to see how he scores though. I heard a interesting comparison for his offense- Carmelo Anthony. Last year they scored the same way. BI would get a pass make a move or two and settle for the long two. I wanna see more spot up 3s, slashing, and taking guys one on one to the rim.
