if we don't resign lopez due to the lebron/wbrook/george pipe dream signing, bogut might be our guy at the 5. that's the only reason i can think of for signing him now.

Let's hope for a fully healthy season for Bogut! Welcome!
We have a pretty solid rotation at C.

Now Magic is making sense of salary, cap space and players. What was the deal with Mozgov? Bogut for $2.3 million makes sense as a vet player behind Lopez. Then bring Zubac and Bryant on slow. I expect Bogut to get traded by trading deadline for a second round pick.
Bogut makes the roster 15 players. I wonder if we offer Blue the 2-way contract.

It's feels kinda messed-up to trade a vet on a min contract that had options to sign elsewhere, but I feel like he wont last the season in LA either for some reason.

I think we only trade Bogut to somewhere he want to go and for the playoff push ONLY IF the Lakers miss on the playoff chase. I think Bogut would prefer this.

I like it a lot. Great defender and can help the two young centers develop. Plus an Aussie on the lakers, its great.

That floor-spreading though.
Nothing to dislike about the signing though. Timing for the team, length of contract, leadership, dollar amount..all check out.

Interesting move... Feels like Magic feels we got a shot this year... Playing to win... Luke coached Bogut at GS... Another good sign... Interesting...

I thought I read somewhere we only had 800k left. How were we able to sign bogut?

room mid-level exception, which we just used because we capped ourselves out
http://hoopshype.com/2016/11/04/hoopshype-explains-what-is-the-nba-mid-level-exception/Room Mid-Level Exception ($2.898 million in 2016-17):
“Room” is the lowest of the three mid-level exceptions and available to teams that are under the cap enough to lose the more valuable exceptions. The room exception is also shorter in terms of maximum years, and players can only be signed up to two years.
The question that arises is: Why do you need the room exception if you are under the cap? Isn’t a player signed under the cap just a regular salary?
The room exception becomes relevant because other exceptions (such as the taxpayer mid-level- or bi-annual exception which is available every other year) are counted against the cap until the team renounces them – i.e. tells the league they don’t want to use them. This seems weird but actually makes sense because the way to go over the cap is by using these exceptions, so they have to be priced in when making cap decisions.
The simplified explanation: A team is very close to the cap but not over it and can’t use their exceptions. The room exception is bigger than the difference between the salary cap and the team’s current salary – hence, the team gets an exception to go over the cap.
basically, the non-tax-payer MLE, and the tax-payer MLE counts are used when you're over the cap, because you don't have cap space
the room MLE however, doesn't count against your cap, so you can freely spend up to the cap (technically the diff. between the cap and (the cap minus the room MLE), because then you can use the room-MLE to offer a contract up to X.X mil outside the normal vet min exceptions.
another way to look at it is that the room MLE doesn't count against your cap (unlike the nontax and tax-payer MLEs), so you don't need to renounce it to use your cap space

Nice signing!
I love all these 1 year deals
Depending on how it goes he is a great addition to a trade if we need to dump Clarkson for salary cap room. A play-off team may want a 6th man and back up center similar to the Lou trade in Feb.
Lonzo... lets let Randle and Clarkson run back up PG??? lol
Pope/Clarkson/Brewer
Ingram/Kuzma/Deng
Randle/Nance
Lopez/Zubac/Bogut
What's the over/under for Brewer/Bogut/Deng/Clarkson/Randle(expiring) to be on the team in March?

Room exception of 4.2M available.
And uh.. going to be interesting to see the minutes distribution in the front court.
Between 96 minutes at the 4/5 spots, we have to sort that up amongst..
Randle, Nance, Lopez, Deng, Kuzma, Bogut, Zubac
