Ran into Kyle Kuzma

I recently moved to Hermosa Beach and joined a crossfit gym. Today at the 6:15am workout a tall light skin guy walked in and low and behold it was Kyle Kuzma.

We did circuit training, no heavy lifting. I did not want to bother him, but I did. I asked him why he was working out so early this morning after the game.

He said he does circuit training at the gym 3-4 times a week to keep his conditioning. Then go to 10am practice and in the afternoon do pilates.

He said he got this routine from Joe Johnson in regards to pro longing his career and the importance of keeping a routine.

He favorite NBA players are Kobe Bryant, but he model his game after Joe Johnson.

Cool down to earth guy. Very mature for his age. I"m in my 30's and I thought I was talking to a man my age. We are in good hands people.

Guess he was working with Joe in Utah last season. Nice to hear of his dedication and commitment. The future looks bright.

Without a doubt the steal of this draft class. If continues this level of production he will be contention to be ROY. I know I know too soon to tell but one can dream.

Nice post! Good to hear.

I'm very excited about what we got here. I didn't think there was a chance in hell that Randle would lose his starting spot so early. But with Nance out....I don't think Kyle will be looking back. I bet he keeps it from here on out.

I wanna give credit to both Randle and Luke (i've been fairly hard on Luke)....in that Randle has embraced the bench role, and I think it was a great move by Luke. Nance was playing great, and Randle has been much better. I think that made the decision to start Kuz much easier.

Either way.....great to hear he's treating his career like just that: a career.

I always look at it like this, Luke know's more than a fan. He's with them every day and know's how they practice and work. I can't see Julius starting at the four because it seems like he only play's well in spurts. Sometimes he looks like a space cadet out there. So I'm cool with it. Only concern is when Kuz goes up against Boogie and BG, those guys. They will eat him up.

It's stories like this that let you know Kuz is a keeper

Gets in late after the Portland game (ended at 10pm) somehow sleeps), and is at the gym at 6am!

Stories of hard work, rather than, "I saw 'lakers rookie' at in-n-out at 130am and then walking out the club at5am with a couple homies and hotties."

When Kuz was at the gym at 6 am, you know there are NBA players who are still awake going wild that late. (3am east coast time)

Yep....truth there.

I also share the concern. We're looking good against the Nets....but let's all try and not get too disappointed when Kuz (and our whole team) goes out there and gets spanked by OKC, or GS or whoever. Draymond Green is gonna have some sh** to show Kuz next month, thats for sure....but hey....this guy is a damn rookie. He's gonna take some licks.

Very excited about where he is though.....and with what's he's shown so far.

I bumped into Robert Horry at HEB in San Antonio loading up a shopping cart full of beer.

That's pretty awesome dedication from such a young kid. Glad he's already embracing the pro mentality. I keep waiting for this kid to come back to earth, but he just continues to impress.

This kid is a stud. You can tell he has good work ethic by how much he's improved his shooting since college.

And got to give props to Lakers scouting cuz they have been flat out killing it every draft.

I met Krs-One at the Whole Foods in Woodland Hills a few years ago. Spoke with him for about 15 minutes. Great guy.

Wow. This is a guy who's totally dedicated to his craft. Players had an off day today, which means he could have easily gone out Friday night after the game and slept in.

Winner.

Even crazier than that

This was day after Portland game (according to limited op information)

He played (great) came in late, and still went out busting his butt.

In between on a back to back in different cites

I'm not sure if nance should get his job back (as a rule, no one should lose their starting job to injury)

But how can we lose Kuz out of the lineup. His shooting helps a lot. And Randle becomes the bench big Lamar Odom role.

It took kobe until his 3rd season to start (because fox and horry were hurt in the 1998 strike season) it took kuzma 8 games to take a starting spot. In ranldes 3rd season (+ 1 rookie game)

Lakers are 3 deep at pf
Plus whatever deng has left (may be nothing, may be a starter level 3 and d stretch 4). And Kuz may be something special. Really special

20+/10+ in his first game starting

Sky is the limit

This is a rookie talking about career longevity, wow. That is commitment.

And when you said he patterned his game to Joe, I suddenly saw the similarities: the drives, spins, floaters. That's a good model to pattern your game. Smooth and cerebral. Add in his length, speed, shooting, and athleticism and you got a skilled, offensive threat.

I went to a WWF event in 90 in San Berdoo where Hulk Hogan pantsed The Genius (who was Randy Savage's brother). The Genius ran out of the arena in embarrassment when his butt was bared to the crowd. Hulkster then did a pose and "Let me hear you!" routine in the ring. I wanted to see Demolition win, but they lost to The Brian Busters that day. :( They did walk into the ring in their full leather Road Warrior/Mad Max type uniforms WITH Humungus masks, though. http://tinyurl.com/y8evl77f

Can you one up that one by any chance?
