I remember some debates back in the day when we were discussing who was better. Bogut or Bynum.

Even today I rather have bogut

Everyone had high hopes for Bynum. I remembered when people were hyping Greg Oden as the next big center who would dominate Bynum and the rest of the league.

And as far as 90s Lakers I remember Elden Campell. I think he would be better than Bogut now.

Elden was bad ass. Pure 90s center very talented , half court post up awkward moving but massive hops for a center (He s got the highest jump standing still..i don't think I've ever seen him run and jump) couldn't play alongside shaq, but man did he carry us that one year shaq was out for awhile. And that deep smooth voice of his (when he did actually talk)

Bynum no.

I miss Bynum. The player & the poster. Wish both would return.

Bynum was arguably the best pure center we've had since Shaq left. A TOP 5 center in the league (for 3.5 seasons), an scoring machine in the post, a great rebounder and nice anchor and shot blocker. Yeah, I really miss him.

Remember when Bynum VS Howard was a thing? Good times.

Honestly Bynum was terrific as a Laker and F all of the Haters. Dude legit helped earn us a Championship.

He went from a nobody to a dominant force in 2007 and was the reason we came out of nowhere to start the season on fire until he got hurt and was never the same player. He was dunking on everyone, and slamming down every lob pass within 5 ft of the rim.

If it wasn't for Bynum, there was no reason for us to get Pau that year.

This was one of the best moments to watch as a Laker fan, and the highlight of that season.



Bynum maned up and held his own against the Diesel.

Guess what? His career got derailed by injuries. But he changed his from a finisher at the rim, to a dominate post-up player while he could still play.

Bynum deserves some respect as a Laker.

I would add that I don't think Bynum had much passion for the sport. He didn't love it. If I remember my history correctly, he had a nasty growth spurt around 17, and Basketball had never been on his radar until then. I think he saw the $$$ (who wouldn't?) and that why he was here. Many coaches said he was hard to work with....lacked discipline, or any of that work ethic / passion to give that extra bit.

But the guy was a beast for half of 2007/8. He was tearing it up. We were #1 in the west when he went down (Ten 50+ win teams that year in the west, btw)...which was before Pau...and either before Ariza, or like 3 games with Ariza.

Big contributor to our 2 titles....no doubt. I got no hate for the guy. He certainly deserves respect for what he did here. But I'm glad we moved him, and wish we'd done it a year or two earlier.

Bynum had huge talent. Quick nimble feet for a big, and despite horrendous knee injury he was able to transform himself from high flyer to a dominant post big. But yea, he didnt have passion for the game, he was just looking to get paid, but goddamn did he have the body and athleticism.

If he never got injured AND had passion for the game, he'd have been **** all over the league all the way til now. Cuz its clear once his athleticism fades he had the chops to develop a post game under the tutelege of Kareem. With the dearth of quality Cs, sure small ball woulda killed him on defense, but on offense they couldnt do **** to stop him.

Sigh...

Bynum wasn't a basketball player at heart IMHO. What he did with his talent under Phil and crew was pretty amazing. His footwork is as good as any big I've every seen. He was a natural post player on both boxes. Better knees and a little more desire he might have been very good for a long time.
