Lakers need to play Deng

Post#1 » by LakerLegend » Wed Jan 10, 2018 1:17 am

We're paying him for nothing.

He's a solid classy vet who can help the team.

We're not going to have our pick this year no matter what.

There's nothing to lose in giving Deng some PT.

So Randle, Kuz, or Nance sits for Deng? He can't play the 3 anymore.

He's being bashed as washed up and I honestly would not be surprised if he comes out of this long rest looking like a good vet pickup for someone, but I don't know if it helps your wish to build trade value for Nance or Randle and he isn't a 3 or a 5.

Prob not enough time to showcase him. We should have started him from the beginning of the season, to show that he’s still alive, and maybe even able to play when given a real opportunity. Such a low risk high payoff move.

That would have a been logical, considering that he’s the biggest impediment to building a superteam.

Too late now, not enough to build a legit sample size, he’d need time to adjust, get into game shape, etc.

Really poor management. Now there’s only one option left on the table. Disappointing.

Sadly against the Clippers, he looked cooked. He's probably not in any type of shape right now so it would just be worse.

That would be nice if he magically gained value and looked like a good player who teams wouldn't mind taking on. He is just not that guy, or rather I would be extremely amazed. I hated the signing immediately as I was never a fan of deng in his prime, even less so the couple of years after, then looked somewhat passable his last year in Miami. He looked even more done last year than I, as a deng hater, would have guessed. This isn't a just add minutes situation.

You just don't want us to have a 3 game winning streak and have no spoilers in our game threads, shame on you.

All jokes aside. Nope not playing him on this team, he done :)

The Lakers should have given him a 2 year deal not 4 years and because of that mistake we have to stretch waive him.

I'd say he should at least be in the locker room.

We're not paying him for nothing. Lot of these players who sit at the far end of the bench still have a lot of usage during practice drills and scrimmages. It is his expertise and knowledge (Not physical skill) that he will lay upon others to improve them during this time.

No. You don't sacrifice playing time for players you are looking to develop so Deng's corpse can get some minutes on the floor.

If Deng performed well enough to offload his contract onto another team, he wouldn't be considered an albatross contract. And we wouldn't have a need to trade him.

That's the extreme far end of the bench. So far down it he's actually on his own couch at home.

I wonder if he'd play in the G League just to prove he's ... alive
