Re: Building A Super Team
1. randle's cap hold is 12.45 million. can't re-sign him with bird rights because we need to renounce those bird rights for cap space to chase apparently, the top 3 FAs
2. that leaves around 70 mil for those 3. good luck convincing them to take 8-13 million dollars less per year. realistically, 2 FA plan is much easier to achieve
3. if we chase two of them, we don't need to expend valuable draft picks to trade deng. and need only stretch deng.
4. this is pure fantasy

1. I thought you could use Randle’s Bird rights to go over the cap to re-sign him? Or would his Bird rights create less Cap Space for the Max FA? I only decided to keep him for this reason, if we can’t re-sign him over the cap, a Vet Mininim for a player wanting to win a chip will be fine. Hopefully Zubac or Bryant can step up and fill his role.
2. Yes, this scenario everything has to go right. The 3 stars would have to take paycuts to form this team. This is where we need a strong pitch from the Front Office and Laker Fan Celebrities. Pretty sure the players will be able to get more money signing with us anyway from bigger endorsement deals?
3. I hate the idea of stretching Deng, yes it is the easiest option, but the way he’s contract will be on the books for an even greater period is just horrific.
4. Yes, if it wasn’t, every team would have super teams now wouldn’t they?

Re: Building A Super Team
There are some interesting ideas in there. I like the idea of cleaning out all of our picks to get rid of Deng. We could trade for a first rounder later to compensate.
All trades ever proposed here are usually crushed by all other posters. No big Laker trades that happened has ever been predicted here, either, so dont take it personally.

1. You can go over the cap to sign your own free agents with Bird rights. You can't however, sign free agents up to your cap without your free agent not counting against your cap, then use your player's Bird rights to go over the cap. This was a loophole that was closed in an older CBA. This is why free agents (of all types, not just Bird free agents) have a cap hold. To prevent teams from abusing this loophole. To free up the space, a team must renounce their free agents to free up the cap space.
2. We're not talking 6-8 million overall as was in 2010 with the superfriends here. We're talking 8-13 million PER YEAR because these free agents' maxes are so much larger.
3. So is giving away picks. Picks we'll need to fill out the roster. All for the measly (<4% of the cap, if the Lakers get Deng to agree to an extend and stretch). Which is nothing anyway once we cap ourselves out, since the Lakers print money. Lakers can't print young talent
4. So you agree it's completely not based in reality then

It can be realistic. However, as I stated, everything has to go to plan. Scratch Re-Signing Randle and it’s only a 4-5 million paycut for each Max FA.
Yes I gather that this won’t happen but a man can dream can’t he

Re: Building A Super Team
The a feasible way to sign all three would be trading for George or Cousins while also dumping everybody but Ball and Kuzma. George and Cousins first year number is 30 million. Could pay Lebron 35 million.

Re: Building A Super Team
We'd be better off without Cousins so if you want to build a 3 star super team you'd sign George and LeBron and then use them to recruit a third superstar to force a trade.
I'd package Ball, Ingram, Kuzma and the UCLA training center lease for someone like Anthony Davis if his head is turned.

Re: Building A Super Team
Love the idea...but at Dr Aki has explained, there are realities.
There's nothing wrong with throwing out ideas......but be ready for people to cut it down. I think Dr Aki did a good job of cutting it down with facts....not just a bunch of insults. I agree with him. You have to resign your players first...then you can sign free-agents. Throws a massive wrench in the works.
It is what it is. Sorry it doesnt fit the plan, but don't hate the messenger.
