Silver to Magic: "Don't talk about other players."

"We'd love to hear players like Magic Johnson talk about how great young players are in the league," Silver told Rachel Nichols. "But there's enough commentary out there. And I think, when on balance, just asking them to refrain from that one aspect of talking about other players, isn't that big a deal."
Silver added, “The other teams seem to be able to follow those rules, and this is, don't talk about players on other teams. I mean incidentally, we could change that rule, but I don't think it's a good idea."
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/adam-silver%e2%80%99s-message-to-magic-stop-talking-about-other-teams-players/ar-BBJdtp4?li=BBnba9ILike someone posted earlier... I think the league pretty much wet themselves when Magic was hired as GM of the Lakers... He's money in the bank and a great interview... There aren't too many better ambassadors for the game than Magic.
The only other executive that might be more intriguing as an interview would probably be MJ but he doesn't do that and isn't nearly as engaging...
So now we have this... Which seems kind of juvenile and petty in it's wording. And IMO a little disingenuous.
Has Silver ever talked about another NBA executive this way? I don't think I've ever heard his tone like this... And the just super pettiness of the last fine, in general.
Then we have the way the refs have been calling our games this season... I've actually watched a few non laker games this season, and It seems to me that we're getting called way tighter than anyone else... More just terrible calls against us this season...
It made me kind of wonder if we aren't super popular with the league right now...

It was an interview he did on The Jump ( I saw it). It was the correct answer by him and I am not sure how you take it as some of the things you stated. Rachel Nichols specifically asked him about Magic, that is why he said his name.

Simple rule to follow honestly. If the NBA wanted to be petty they would have fined him a lot more considering this was a second offense.

It's a straight forward response if it was about Dan Gilbert, or Mitch Kupchak, or Daryl Morey... But Magic isn't those guys...
He's one of the, if not the, highest profile face of the association, from the executive side... They WANT him doing interviews... They WANT him talking about the league and the exciting future of the NBA...
So I thought the tone of the response was a little condescending, and coupling that with the last fine Magic got, it just seems like Silver saying 'respect my authority.'
"The other teams seem to be able to follow the rules.." Cmon now... Who gives a **** what Dan Gilbert thinks about the Greek freak?

Mitch managed to always say he couldn't talk about other players. Big deal. STFU, follow the rules.
I also think it's preemptive. The photo op with Silver, Magic and Pelinka; the constant bs talk for decades from all other teams about how Lakers get special treatment.
Silver is making sure that once we start winning rings, it can't be questioned. He didn't cozy up to us in that NY meeting, and he's indeed fair to all teams. That's what this is about, imo.
Someone like Gilbert is in his ear.
