Kawhi on draft day...?

Post#1 » by lelelazza8 » Tue Feb 27, 2018 11:01 am

What you think if LAL
trade Ingram, Zubac, Cavs 1st round pick, CHI 2019 2nd round pick and Deng
to SAS
for Kawhi and B.Paul (non-guaranteed next year)...

With this trade LAL enter in free agency with 4th player under contract (Kawhi, Lonzo, Kuz and Hart + DEN 2nd round pick)...
Renunce T.Bryant, T.Ennis and B.Paul... and rescind QO to Randle...

Have enough cap space to sign 2 max contract... PG13 and LBJ?
and use MLE to sign a good defensive C (D.Favors?) and add ring chaser at min vet...

Favors/LBJ/Kawhi/PG/Lonzo Bench: Kuzma/Hart/DEN 2nd round pick/4 ring chaser

No to any deals involving trading Ingram.

There are only about 5 guys ins the League I'd trade Ingram for. Giannis, Towns, Embiid, Simmons, Porzingis. Thats it.

Pop would take Ingram to a next level and in two years you'd be stuck paying an injury prone Kawhi while saying how the Spurs are so good.

San Antonio have a problem on their hands in terms of extending Kawhi a super max considering a serious injury, don't bail them out of it.

I like Kawhi but not in the expense of BI. What I want is Kawhi and BI playing together.

I got Ingram 1a, and Lonzo 1b. Those two are the truth IMO. I don't think Kuzma is remotely close to those two... In fact, I'd rank Hart above Kuzma honestly.

Pretty much. I'd still put Kuzma over Hart, but a lot closer to Hart than Ball.

I talked about trading Ingram for Kawhi before, but honestly, with the way he's been playing, and with KL's hip, I wouldn't trade Ingram for Leonard right now.
Only player I'd trade Ingram for right now would be Davis.

I'm honestly not sure if Ingram may be better than Leonard in a year or 2.

Crazy talk. Leonard got that tunnel vision. 3.5 assists per game is his career high, 7 years in the league. Ingram is at 3.8 in his second year already. Spurs would take that and run. Need to move on from Leonard.

Ehhh that has more to do with how the ball moves in their offense vs him having tunnel vision. I have an Ingram bias as well but lets not act like he's anywhere near the player Kawhi is just yet. Kawhi is still a monster on defense on a level that I don't think Ingram will ever hit.

Is Ingram really going to be that much worse than Leonard in 3-5 years? Defensively maybe not but offensively I absolutely think he could be on the same level or better.

The only way I do that trade is if Deng is involved, and if we realistically think that with Deng & B.I gone in a trade (instead of stretching him) we could still sign PG and Lebron and that this would be the difference maker in making it happen.

IIRC we have 70 million in capspace with a stretched Deng (counting around 7 million in our cap) and Ingram (counting around 5 million). So if we were to make that trade, we would be losing around 8 million in capspace, leaving approximately 62 million to sign Lebron and PG. If my math is correct, we could still sign Lebron and PG to their maxes. I love B.I's potential, and I'm concerned about Kawhi's injury, and there is no guarantee that the Spurs would even take that trade or won't be able to find a better trade elsewhere, but I think if the FO believes that Kawhi appeals more PG & Lebron and we have a chance to build a super as a result of trading for him, you have to pull the trigger.

Very far fetched, and extremely unlikely to happen, but:

Lonzo/Room Exception
Kawhi/Hart
George/Kawhi or Lebron
Lebron/Kuz
Zubac/Bryant

is hard to pass up on, as much as I love Ingram (and Randle). Realistically though, I'm not sure if the Spurs can't find a better offer, unless Kawhi pulls a PG and refuses to resign anywhere else, and other than his SOCAL upbringings, there is no reason to think he would do that.

I agree actually....such a trade would only make sense if it's going to be the difference maker for PG & Lebron. If we aren't trying to compete with the Warriors now, (and our core without adding big time FA's is simply not ready to compete with the Warriors for atleast 3 years), then Ingram on a rookie deal without the injury concerns and 5-6 years younger simply makes more sense. But again, as I said above, it seems like a stretch, both in terms of a the lakers having the other necessary moves linedup for such a trade to make sense for them, and from the Spurs end being willing to take on Deng, which would be a necessity in a Kawhi trade as, again, it only makes sense if we could still sign Pg&Lebron

I'd want Kawhi and Ingram, not one or the other.

Also we don't know how this injury will effect his play, i'd be happy to wait a year
