Who do you think? (Hint, he played for a rival)
If you use google, your scrotum will fall off. If you're a girl, you'll grow one, learn to love it, and just when you do, it'll fall off.

Darryl Dawkins, 70's ish.....although I'm probably wrong, I imagine somebody did it earlier.

I'd have to guess Len Bias in college.

Nah, I'm 100% Dawkins broke a few in the 70's. Bias played college ball in the 80's.

I don't know if it was somebody earlier than Dawkins though.

Good question! I would have said Daryl Dawkins, but your hint makes me think it is a Celtic, and Dawkins was never a Celtic. Plus Dawkins was a late 70's guy and my guess is the first broken backboard came earlier. Hmm, I will go with Bill Russell.

On a side note, does anyone remember "Big Country" breaking one in the NCAA tournament???

Dawkins is a great guess, but not the first. Not sure how long I should let this go on... I'm sure guys are already searching... It's obscure as hell.
Second hint, he was a multi-sport athlete... First and maybe only player to play in both the NBA and MLB.

I'll be thoroughly surprised if anyone gets this without cheating.

Well I couldn't, but I got curious and looked it up. Nobody is guessing this btw.

Apparently, there was a guy in the ABA who broke two backboards in the same game, and the game was cancelled because they didn't have a 3rd one to spare.

Well , that ruins my guess of Bill Russell. Unless I can combine the Celtic great with the Dodger great of the same name...

To curb the scrotum-less pandemic in Laker land, the answer is:

The Rifleman!

No, not this Rifleman:

This Rifleman:

That's right Chuck Connors not Chuck Person...

He looked like this though:

Dude was a badass actually... Drafted by the Celtics, Dodgers and Bears... Played for the Dodgers and Celtics... Tank instructor in WWII...

The Backboard?... Well they installed it wrong and when he shot a frozen rope that clanged the rim, it shattered.

Awesome question! Do I get partial credit for having the Celtics and Dodgers, but completely wrong player :D

Yeah, that was a solid guess.
