I'd rather Nerlens than DMC, honestly. He won't be the same when he comes back. Nobody has been after Achilles surgery

Re: Nerlens Noel
Definitely on my radar. His value has plummeted, and he's clearly protecting himself after taking the qualifying offer to be unrestricted the summer. The Mavs aren't doing him any favors with the short leash, so we might have a mutual opportunity because he clearly doesn't have a problem betting on himself.
I would offer him a big KCP/Reddick 1-year deal if that capspace if available (we don't land either George or Lebron - or both).
Noel really does have legit potential to be an elite defensive big man, and that is a requirement for championship teams.
His defensive ratings have consistently been very good to elite, even as a rookie, throughout all the B.S. in Philly and Dallas. Double-double machine, efficient scorer and not a liability at the free throw line, with 2 steals and 2 blocks PER36. This guy has all the signs of being an elite big man defender, and he's about the same age as Julius Randle.
If we land Paul George, and Lonzo-Ingram-Kuzma develop, that might be it, folks. We check all the boxes.

Re: Nerlens Noel
The question is which teams with cap space need a C badly.
Which capped out teams with full MLE need a C badly.
Will Noel prioritize fit over short term money? Having ideal fit for 1 year to put up elite numbers will guarantee a big deal the following season.
Full MLE nowadays is like 8.4m, i thnk thats the target number to beat to get Noel's services. I have a hard time seeing rebuilding teams willing to offer Noels a big multiyear deal, 1 year balloon otoh is fairly realistic. If we grab Noel on a 1 year balloon it means we whiffed on getting max FAs though
I used to be Noel > Randle in how we spend our cap, but with the way Randle has come on strong the past few weeks it gets harder to justify that position. Signing Noel means we want him to be the C of the future and there's no good on court fit for Randle/Noel as both lack range. It's one or the other.

Re: Nerlens Noel
Noel isn't very good. Playing next to LeBron as a consolation prize to losing Randle, may make him look better, but still a rather tepid option...
So yeah... Sure... Whatever... But he better not be a first priority.

Puke. No thanks.
I stumbled into watching a Dallas game a week or so ago against Oklahoma City and he's a complete offensive liability. He's way more an offensive liability than Isaiah Thomas is a defensive liability.

What I was thinking - defensive center who can fun and finish at the rim.

Question isn’t if you’d rather have DMC, it’s if you’d rather have Noel or Randle. Considering their skillet and contract status, it’s one or the other not both.

Re: Nerlens Noel
The question is, why were Magelinka targeting Noel? It was mentioned that we had interest. Why? It ultimately does not matter what we think. But the guys pulling the trigger, had or have interest in this guy's services. Magelinka have made several good moves that most of us approve of. So their judgment has passed the test in many Laker fans minds.. So is this move towards Noel another? Or was it a mistake to consider it? What is it about him that they are looking at, that we need? Just 2 Cents.

Oh yeah, if we get our two max guys (Lebron and pg13) then at centre, Noel would be terrific cause Lopez ain't taking the mle

No to James and George
I would welcome him but on a cheap deal or just a one year balloon deal. I don't want James or George in LA, yup I don't want them here. I like our youth and if we can add to our core with cheaper younger players that fit the age group of our core then I'm all for it.
SF:Ingram
PF:Randle/Kuzma
C:Noel/Zubac/Bryant
SG:Hart
PG:Ball
I like that, sure we need to fill out the roster but its a good start.

I've got serious doubts about Zu. A seven=footer who gets blocked like that ... guy's feet are nailed to the floor

Noel's the type of player you can get for the Tyreke Evans MLE. Two superstars, resigned Randle and Noel would be an A+ off season.

MLE is around $8.2M, which is what I'd pay for Noel if we were to wash our hands off the development time we afforded to Zubac and Bryant. He'd be a nice defensive big off the bench.
Personally I'd much rather bring back Lopez. Randle isn't going to get the same freedom in the paint with Noel being utterly useless on offense.

Yeah, if Lopez's stock has fallen far enough to be in the MLE ball park, I'd be all for bringing him back... He's finally playing within the system a little more and has gotten leaner and quicker... Not sure there's a better situational starter big in the league to be had for that kind of money.

We're under the cap so we won't have the MLE. Unless you're talking about just signing Noel for 8 million and torpedoing 2 max free agents.

I was talking about his value in general. If we get two max FAs no one is going to want Noel anyways.
