Would the Lakers decline Lonzo's option for the 19-20 season?

Like, if he has another up-and-down season with injuries or strictly flashes of potential? With the rise of the 76ers out east and Donovan Mitchell, Devon Booker, etc, out west, is it likely that Magic & Pelinka say "So long, Lonzo" if he keeps underwhelming?

Is that usual for rookie contracts to have team options?

Or do you see him having a breakout season and them offering him an extension?

I think they could send him packing, but I think they'd probably rather trade him first.

Would make sense just to trade him then decline his option.

Seems ludicrous today... But anything is possible.
However, the series of events that would have to happen to lead up to that would seem to be silly to even contemplate... Huge regression in skills, attitude problems... That kind of thing... Teams don't generally renounce options over things like injuries.

So today I'd have to say hell no. In a year, who knows.

He's got some big holes in his game. He seems like he's aware of them and also seems like he has the work ethic to close them over time. I think you have to give these kids who really aren't ready for the NBA a couple years before you make decisions on them. Let's see what we see next year by the deadline.

That said, our new leadership want's a winner in here and now. Anything is possible IMHO. I don't see a renouncing of rights coming for him but a trade isn't out of the realm of possibility somewhere down the line if he flatlines.

I would only consider it if he keeps shooting historic low percentages.
