Do we believe this nbadraft.net report that the Lakers have made him a promise at 25?

No.

He's being rated as a top 20 prospect on most mock drafts so it would make sense. I'm not sure if he falls that far though.

Interesting that he pulled out of the combine. Guess we will see if he works out for any other teams or truly has shut it down as required by any of these “promises”. He reminds me a little bit of Clint Capela so I wouldn’t be disappointed if we got him.

He also pulled out of Kentucky and now the combine. I get the feeling he's not prepared mentally for the NBA at all.

well, if you can get lottery potential at #25, you'd be an idiot not to take it.

buy an early 2nd rounder to grab jalen brunson and i'll be a happy happy chap

Can you add the whole “promise” thing to the title? Thought this thread was just another random opinion.

Another centre. Like how many centre's do we need, we have 2 young ones already and Robinson isn't any better.

Lakers don’t have a single center on the roster that has demonstrated themselves as close to a being a long term piece.

But we're drafting another centre, this would be third year in a row we've drafted a centre in the 20's-30's. Also Zubac on his first season alone is probably at least worth trusting a little bit.

Besides Robinson hasn't shown a single reason why we ought to draft him.

Agree with everything. The Lakers would have to first have a workout with Mitchell and then he''ll have to impress them enough to draft him. Otherwise their just starting a new project player to develop.

Mitchell Robinson's physical profile reminds me a little bit of david robinson, quick, athletic, strong, agile
It isn't about how many center have we drafted. It is about how good the talent is and whether he is an attainable talent.
Just pick the best talent available.
By the way, I am skeptical on the "promise" thing unless we have a secret workout & interview with him
If the promise is true, probably we will have move to move our draft pick a little upward or we are attaining another draft pick in the early 20s range.

So if Zubac has done enough to trust him (LOL), then wouldn’t you say that Lonzo has done enough to not draft another pg, Hart had done enough not to draft another sg, Ingram had done enough not to draft another sf, Kuzma has done enough not to draft another pf.....

Considering the team has more promising players at every other position, and is targeting star wings in free agency, seems to make sense they wouldn’t rule out taking a big man.

I had a player I wanted the Lakers to select every year, including last year, an they selected a player or players that performed better... We have struggled to sign high profile free agents but I trust the draft process... Kuzz & Hart... Nance... Clarkson... Hard not to give them love for their late picks... Kid reminds me more of a Von Maker / Miles Turner type player than Robinson but could be a “high risk high reward” player...

Lakeshow Baby...

Kid has a rare combination of length, shot blocking skills and athleticism. Kind of like a DeAndre Jordan, I guess. This would ensure that we have at least one bonefied shot blocker and athlete on our roster. I could see where they are going with this.

Difference is we have Zubac and Bryant from 2 consecutive years. Clearly if we've got bigger fish to fry than drafting centre year after year, we need depth at both guard positions as well as S.F. more than we need another project centre.

Depending on who the Lakers sign in free agency. Both LeBron and George can overlap SF along with Ingram. And all three of these guys can make the PG position more of a SG function. Gotta think more in terms of function for the team rather than position. And potential matchups with the elite. And in that respect I think the Lakers lack a rim protector.

Not meaning robinson is surely an all star in the making, but you dont pass up players which you think is talented. For instance, you don't pass up jokic because you hace nurkic. Will you pass up drafting shaq becoause you have dwight ?

Also, I think if paul george comes on board, ingram may play the 2 spot primarily

True but nothing here indicates Robinson is nearly that level, what exactly are we going on to indicate what he actually is other than some highlight reels, we don't know his actual in game play at a competitive level.
