UNEXPECTED summer scenarios
Given that everyone hopes / expects LAL to sign big-name free agents, I've been thinking of events (making sense) that could happen when LAL doesn't get the obvious (LeBron James - going to Houston in my opinion / Paul George - maybe going to Philadelphia?).
I've been reading reports about Julius Randle not really feeling appreciated by the Lakers, and will prioritize playing on winning teams.
Except that beyond Philadelphia, no good / winning team had any cap space. So next I looked at teams that would be closer to competing and would also fit his style.
Memphis is an interesting case, with the presence of Marc Gasol and somewhat of a lost identity with bruising players + Parsons huge contract. The last season was a lost case, and unless they want to trade Gasol (whose trade value is really low right now), they have no choice but to go all the way.
So Randle would make sense on their team, but why would the Lakers do it? Well, that 4th pick is pretty interesting, in light of the team's late run of success in drafting. Mohammed Bamba looks like a missing piece from the roster, putting him on a closer timeline with the rest of the roster than Randle. Another player I like from Memphis is Tyreke Evans, so being an early Bird player, he'd have to agree to a mid-level exception for 3-4 years in a double sign-and-trade. A bit complicated in terms of contracts, but makes sense from a basketball perspective.
What do you think? Does this look plausible?
What other scenarios make sense to you?

Re: UNEXPECTED summer scenarios
So what's the scenario? Randle for #4 plus Parsons awful deal that Grizz need to dump to make randle work?
Obviously that pick would present an amazing opportunity to add to the young core, but we'd be sacrificing a max spot for the rest of the time we have cap. I'd probably do it depending on how the top 3 falls, but I might be missing something.

Re: UNEXPECTED summer scenarios
Well if Houston wins the title, I think Lebron is guaranteed to go to the 76ers. I do have a hard time imagining PG resigning with the thunder.
As for the draft, I don't see us getting a high draft pick short of trading Ingram for it. There is simply too much baggage with Lonzo. With no Free agents, the smart move would be to resign Randle and just give big one year deals to veterans.

Re: UNEXPECTED summer scenarios
I think we might see unexpected trades all around the league and with our team as well. There are a few teams with significant cap room so the only avenue left for big change is to trade. We have both assets and cap room so we're a logical partner for big trades.

Yeah...no.
For one, I’d rather have Randle than the 4th pick in the draft. Then you want to kill our flexibility by adding Parsons’ corpses? Jim, is that you?

Re: UNEXPECTED summer scenarios
Getting the #4 pick + Parsons by just sign & trading Randle is a goddamn dream come true if we whiff out on FA again.
Parsons only has 2 years left on his massive **** tier deal which coincides with Deng, thus it doesnt really cripple us financially as we arent gonna compete the next 2 years anyway if FAs keep snubbing us. On the off chance Parsons gets healthy, cuz yunno, he's about to be an FA again, maybe we can fool a sucker to take him off our hands.
We need more developable young talent badly if we whiff in FA, and if this was available only a fool would turn it down.
I think Randle might just be forced to sign the Qualifying Offer unless we miraculously sign both PG13 and LBJ early. His RFA rights being held is totally screwing him over as he's not in that tier of player that teams would be salivating to overpay (nor do teams want repeat the errors of Wizards with OPJ and Blazers with Crabbe).
I'd be giddy if we do retain Randle for the QO, then he has to do whatever we say if he wants PT

Re: UNEXPECTED summer scenarios
I hate any theory that involves giving up Randle. I just do. But, the front office would do this trade I’m sure. Maybe I’d do it.. but I think very highly of Julius.
If we’re going to take on a contract, I’d love to take on Batum’s contract and either Monk or their 1st rounder.
Bill Simmons and Zach Lowe also suggested if the Lakers strike out on everything, if they would consider trading some of the young guys to OKC for Westbrook. Personally, I wouldn’t do that.
We could use our cap space to get in the mix on a lot of different things this summer.

Re: UNEXPECTED summer scenarios
If we whiff I'm hoping we just do a couple of Caldwell-Pope deals and try to roll that space over into next summer.
I don't follow all the speculation and chatter nearly like I used to -- I'm at the point in my fandom where whatever is going to happen will happen, so I don't spend a lot of time mapping out scenarios -- but I'm kind of surprised we haven't been able to package Deng with our No. 1 pick and trade him to a full-blown rebuilding team like the Hawks or the Suns. Cap space is meaningless to them at this point, where they should be entirely focused on stockpiling assets.
Do that and it would seem like we'd have a pretty good chance of landing George and LeBron and maybe even retaining Randle. That's not a championship team, but we should at least be entertaining for the first time in years.

That scenario would end up with hanging myself at the end of Summer.

You wouldn't trade Lonzo Ball for Russell Westbrook?

No team led by Westbrook is winning anything. That should be evident by now. If you want to brag about "your guy's" stats on line he's your guy but not for a team looking to build a championship roster again.

I wouldn't, man.
He's a Kobe Bryant mentality basketball player without the basketball IQ and fundamentals to his game. And that's a really bad combination.
Not saying he's not fun to watch, because he plays like his hair is on fire, but that's the benefit + downfall of Russell Westbrook. I just don't believe a player like that will ever win a Championship if he's the lead dog on a team.

Depends on who you ask. If you're asking this board it's "untouchable". My guess is around the league it's a little lower than that....

Overall his season didn't live up to the hype for me. He's got some huge holes in his game and he's got some places he's very good. Tons of guys come in like this. The ones that make it fill in the holes and the ones who don't still have them. It would take a high offer for me to trade him before next offseason. These guys need one "pro" summer under their belt before you see what you have IMHO.
