If we strike out this summer I would love to try to get Gortat + 2019 1st from Washington. They're a borderline playoff team and the gortat deal is expiring.

But will he last that long? I doubt it. I think he’s gonna go in the teens.

I’ve said this should be the plan all along, by the way.

The middle of the first round is entirely fluid in most mock drafts and it really comes down to what GMs value of each prospect. Huerter did not workout or meet with other teams after he worked out for the Lakers so may be that might scare some teams off, he's also decided to get a surgery for a torn ligament in his hand so his medical reports are going to be important as well.

I hope so. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we landed Huerter.

I still have a hard time believing we're not going to attach the pick with Deng and trade him.

Our best course of action is to gather more picks if it means absorbing salary for one or two years. Right now we are in a nice spot with the kids, that we can trust them to improve next season and the season after that.

Once the absorbed salaries and Deng's contract expire (2020 summer would be perfect), then we can strike in the right moment to bring two max. players to a team that has a familiarity with each other. In 2020 Ingram and Ball will be 22 going 23. Hart and Kuzma will be 25. Adding two max could widen our window as far as 4 + 4 years.

This whole superteam or bust narrative is a ploy to get Lakers to be relevant in short term with no plans in long term. Magic and Pelinka need to be smarter than that.

OK
So I just looked at both Parsons & Deng's contracts.

Deng makes sense in a deal if MG are looking to cut his salary out.
Around 14m Incentive to MG.

Now,
With that 4'th selection, how do we fill out that difference?
Do we add another player into that deal to balance out the #'s?

Or do we have a deal in place to select a player for SAS with that 4'th selection?

I'll assume this scenario works for deals with any other team not being mentioned to date.

We can take salary, but I'm not sure how valuable a pick we can get for an expiring. Low first?

But if we're going to do this, we got to go all the way.

1) Trade Cavs pick this year for a higher first in 2019
2) Get our own lottery pick in 2019 (.500 record would be a lottery team this past season)
3) Randle re-signs to a reasonable contract (to trade for a 1st rounder)
4) Lonzo improves his shot, approaches top 10 PG
5) Ingram (take more 3’s, play better D!), approaches top 10 SF
6) Kuzma gets better on D, approaches top 10 PF
7) Hart (take more 3’s, play better D) approaches top 15 SG
8) Deng becomes expiring, easier to move
9) We avoid Lebron Inc. rental or castrophic injury (he’s due), salary cap hell
10) Use our capspace this summer generating more assets. Give 1-year opportunities to guys like Seth Curry, Nerlens Noel, Derrick Favors, or even Demarcus Cousins - whoever is the best bet to generate a first rounder for a desperate team before trade deadline.
11) Eating salary dump this summer for a 1st

From a pure value standpoint, that would ideally give us something like:

4 Lottery picks:
2, 4, 5, 6,

5 1st rounders:
1, 3, 7, 10, 11

We sacrifice a first (or two) to lose Deng next summer.

With virtually zero salary, to create a superteam in 2019.

Sign Kawhi and George/Klay, and trade for Anthony Davis.
