Let me please offer an unofficial nickname for one of our newest additions of the Lakers family.

"Soup"

His name is literally an alphabet soup :P

Asking any of us here to try to say his name will prolly cause aneurysms ;)

This guy just turned 21 a few days ago, despite playing 4 yrs in college. So he's not your typical 23 yr old senior, a close to a finished product. He can still improve. Would have liked somebody else with the pick but he's a fantastic spot up shooter and has decent length.

Can be a decent rotation player I guess.

On the surface, this is a **** pick considering Bates Diop was on the board. This guy we could have signed undrafted most likely if we wanted to (or bought the pick when he went 58 for like 200k).

spens, you are not happy with any of the picks. could give benefit of the doubt to our scouting dept.

We can see there is some theme/pattern to the players the Lakers drafted this year.

MoWag is a stretch 4 that can shoot from long distance, 39.4% from 3s.
Svi Mykhailiuk is a wing that can shoot from long distance, 44.4% from 3s on 6.6 attempts.
Malik Newman is a cg that can shoot from long distance, 41.5% from 3s.
Joel Berry is a pg that can shoot from long distance (avg career 36.5%) and FTs (89.3% this year).

Lakers passed on more defensive minded, athletic players like Robinson and Williams then Melton/Diop.
Last year, the team struggled with shooting and the FO is making sure we have enough shooters around the team
this year for the core of the players.

Next up, the FAs and adding Max players and more role players/shooters.
Should be a fun year.

I like Wagner a lot actually, i just think its dumb we went for him over Robert Williams who fills a massive need.

Bonga i have a problem cause he won't come for 2 years and we could easily have gotten Robinson via trade if they didn't want williams.

We got exactly no centre's who could run the floor and that was a massive need we had coming in.

also how can we take this guy and skip Bates Diop. We have a S.G. already in Hart as is.

Maybe Maginka has someone who would fill the need at the center spot like, idk, Noel for MLE?

Or Dwight Howard as awful as that sounds (for the min salary?)

I should hope so because we have no one atm (other than Randle, who is undersized anyway) that can run the floor.

On this guy, doesn't get to the line nearly enough, defensively not that good either.

Somehow he also has t-rex arms, not that it really matters but with his wingspan he belongs on the raptors instead

My big takeaway is we drafted him over Bates-Diop.

Obviously they did not like his demeanor and mental side of evaluating a talent. Mo seems like a much better person in regards to competing on the next level. Williams just screams Bynum to me, tbh. Do just enough to get by and when he's satisfied with the dollarinos he will give up. Not in shape, likes to party...

Reminds me of why we didnt draft Robert Upshaw, a guy who had all the tools and solid skills but was a headcase.

I'll take a Bynum at 25, that late on for a few years if this comes off is better than what could be a bench player, either way if the plan was Wagner, then go out and get Mitchell Robinson rather than wasting the pick on a stash.
